Just to bookend it, here is his pro debut (and the first of his 22* KO1s, of which Etienne was the last) - just a fortnight short of eighteen years earlier:

*The actual number can be viewed as 24, depending on how you want to interpret Tyson vs. McNeeley & Tyson vs. Norris, which officially went down as DQ1 and NC respectively but in all honesty were two more single-round wipe-outs for Mike

    13th Anniversary...??? or 12th Anniversary...???

I had a fighter, Keith McKnight on the undercard. He fought Elvin Evans. Atmosphere was incredible.

    Twelfth, yes, sorry about that.

    So you are Kerry Pharr?

McKnight retired Barkley, didn't he? :good At least from 'real' boxing. (Blade went underground for awhile :-()

No im not Kerry Pharr, but I know Kerry very well. Isle of Capri and/or Lulu's Island (casino changed names like 3 times before Katrina) was Barkley's last fight. he looked terrible, for that fight.

Have you read Kerry's book, "Fight the good fight"...???

Nope. Is the focus more on boxing or the religious and self-help aspects? Or kind of all of it tied in?

All tied in together. Actually a good read, Pharr talks about McKnight being turned down by George Foreman, Foreman said someone would get their jaw broke fighting McKnight. To all the ups-and-downs Pharr's boxers went through.

    Interesting..

There actually was very little except bad luck & timing keeping McKnight from being among the more well-remembered heavies in the mix in the 90's. His résumé, with names like Phil Jackson, Brian Scott, Iran Barkley, Tui Toia, etc really wasn't that much worse than a lot of guys that appeared regularly on TV or got title shots around then. He just kept getting kayoed every time his momentum started to build up.

McKnight's fault was also his appeal: He fought mainly nobodies in Tennessee. The fans loved him there. A billboard with him, Mindy McCready (when she was hot), and another female country star was the first thing you saw entering Nashville. The billboard read "Nashville's biggest knockouts".

When he fought Jimmy Garrett (3-23) the WBF Intercontinental belt was on the line. The fight was broadcast on a local station in Tennessee, and stores closed so their workers could watch the fight.

McKnight got accustomed to the bottom feeders, so when he stepped up (McDowell, Sullivan, Davis, Mesi) he got ko'd. Davis did the worst beating on McKnight, flooring him 5 times, bloodying his face, breaking his nose, orbital bone.

But the Tennessee fans loved him, and embraced him win or lose.

The first fight I ever was a pro cutman for was Phil Jackson vs. McKnight. McKnight almost was TKO'd in the 2nd round.

His punch resistance was futile, but he had heart and determination.

    IB funfact:

Black Rhino Cliff Etienne was the 2nd of just two common opponents for Tyson and Black Bull Cliff Couser, who claims to be Tyson's biological half-brother. (the other being Quick Tillis)
