Foreman had fought and beaten Tyson during his comeback? Would it conclusively prove that the 70's were indeed the golden age of the Heavyweights? Would it make Foreman an instant lock for a place as a top three heavyweight of all time? Would beating a ATG like Tyson at such an advanced age, potentially even beating him before Douglas stealing his 0, make him the #1 heavyweight of all time? Thoughts?
Old Foreman wasnt going to be beat Tyson, even the one that showed up against Douglas. He lacked the speed and workrate to make a Tyson fight competitive. Had he won it would have brought him behind only Louis and Ali.
Had Foreman beaten Tyson before he went to prison he would have a claim for a top 3 spot. Many would see that as the ultimate proof of the superiorty of the heavies of the 70's, but I would probably more see it as a thing of styles. Old Foreman still got thorougly beat most times he stepped up, a win over Tyson wouldn't completely change that fact.
George Foreman started his comeback in 1987 and had he beaten Mike Tyson 1987-1989 the win would have had sky-rocketed his ATG ranking. Of course a win by anyone over Tyson would raise their ATG ranking. How Many people woild have ever heard of James Buster Douglas if he never beat Tyson? A win over Tyson 1990- would have been lesimpresive. Foreman could hit but I would pick a prime Tyson over any version of Foreman eventhe one who beat Joe Joe Frazier twice. I slightly favor 1990-1997 Tyson (the end of Foreman's career.) Over both young and old Foreman. I think the young Forman leaves himself wide open and the old Foreman would not be busy enough. 90-97 Tyson on points over 87-97 Foreman, 86-97 Tyson 86-97 mid round ko over the young Foreman.
It would depend on when the fight took place. If Foreman beat Tyson when Tyson was undefeated champion, I think it would give him a very good case for ranking as the greatest heavyweight of all time and would make a pretty overwhelming case for the view that the '70s heavyweights were superior to their successors. If Foreman beat a post-jail Tyson, it would still be huge, but it would be a matter of a past-prime ex-champion beating another past-prime ex-champion, albeit one substantially closer to his glory days than he was, and so would lose a fair deal of is lustre.
old foreman vs tyson of 91?????........it would look like tyson/bonecrusher..................foreman was just too slow.........and tyson had a great chin.......tyson 12 rd decision.:smoke:smoke:smoke
He would have beaten Tyson, which is why Mike didn't want the fight..lol. That style is always bad for a fighter with that crouch bob and weave style, especially when you still have the power the way Foreman did.
Young Foreman by brutal KO,any version of Tyson. This is just a bad matchup for Tyson. And Big George would do it quick as Tyson didn`t have the `heart` Smokin Joe had. Prime vs. prime, Foreman all night long...
I've been a way a while but has this forum dumbed down a little bit JT? I'm seeing a lot of silly posts that you never used to see here. Garbage like so and so knocks fighter X out with the first punch he throws or whatever. Not how I remember "Classic" forum being at all. I hope I'm mistaken as I used to love reading what some of the boxing scholars here had to say about any and everything.
An old Foreman was probably to slow for Tyson. Even if I really favour the heavyweights that was around during Ali I have to say that this version of Foreman would not be able to cope with Tysons speed. But I wish he could have done it. All the best The predator
