Not sure about this. Holyfield at that stage was a much smarter fighter compared to the one who fought in the Bowe wars. I quote Holyfield's comments in the 30/30 commentary "I was lucky to fight him when he was beatable".

It is funny how as a Lenni nuthugger that you are, you say Holyfield was past it in the Tyson fight but comment that he was not past it in the Lewis fight.

 

I think that was the best version of Holyfield he fought, all juiced up. Holyfield from 1989-1994 was less smart compared to Holyfield in 1996-97.

 

As usual you have NFI. Blinded by lust for Tyson and hatred for Lewis.

A week ago i said the Tyson fight was imo Holyfields finest hour. I've also said i have never seen him better.

Nah, Holyfield missed a year due his heart ailment, and looked unimpressive against Bobby Czyz. It looked like he had left too much in the ring from his wars with Bowe. He was spotty post Moore..

 

No hatred for Lewis personally. Chinny girls who get starched by one big shots to the face like over protected girls should never be glorified.

Holyfield beat a better version of Tyson than Lewis did and has a much more credible victory.

This is how Tyson felt as well at the time taking holyfield very lightly in that first match expecting an early three round knockout.

But history will be kind enough to note that 8 rounds of fighting after being out of the ring for almost 4 years was terrible preparation against a battle hardened warrior like holyfield.

Tyson definitely had declined. That style doesn't have a long shelf life and he was fighting other demons.

 

Just watched the second fight again.


Tyson looked impressive and it was Holyfield that was getting desperate and fouling, low blows and Head-butts. Tyson was furious , he was going to give Holyfield the war he wanted.

I think Tyson was just about as good as he was going to get that night. I think he was going to knock Holyfield out. The fouls by Holyfield were much easier to hide. But, Tyson knew what Evander was doing.

He Screamed Come on! right at Evander and was really looking intense and wanted to do damage.

If Holyfield could have rode it out till about round 7 , he could break Tyson mentally if he would have made it that far. I don't know, ...the more I see that fight the less satisfied in how it ended. Tyson was not going to go down easy ..he WAS into it and wanted to keep going.
