We don't have the complete comprehensive footage of guys like Foreman and Liston to compare tho.

    Disagree.

Bruno was a good contender and he was intimidated by Mike. It is entirely possible to be in shape, in your prime, and ranked high and be intimidated by another fighter.

Pulev recently admitted he was intimidated by Joshua.

    Bruno was mentally weak.
I remember him making comments about Americans being tougher because they grew up in high crime ghettos. He talked himself out of being the boss. He folded under pressure.

Once a fighter gets intimidated he's talked himself out of being in contention.
Good contenders may experience fear of losing or fear of being KO'd but they would use that to motivate a great performance. If they turn meek and fold mentally they're in the wrong game.

If a heavyweight contender isn't going into the ring intent and determined to defeat his opponent, what's the point? What type of weak ass contender is that?

Cassius Clay / Ali, said "post-career", that Liston was "scary". ..for what it's worth.

    I remember that quote
He said something like Frazier was the toughest, Foreman the hardest hitting but Liston was the scariest.

Id say Foremans reign of intimidation only began after the Frazier fight.

Tysons was pretty much soon after he turned pro.

Tyson in my opinion. Fighters were completely cowed into submission by his mere presence, and his erratic personality and propensity to explode at a moment's notice were extremely unnerving. Couple that with his fearsome power and physical capabilities in the ring and here was a fighter that could completely back up everything he promised to do to you.

Liston had a sort of brooding menace, and the connections to say that you should never mess with him, but as a fighter I wouldn't have felt that same sort of brown-trousers fear of God that Tyson would have put into me.

Would it be fair to say that Tyson may have been slightly more intimidating to the opponents of his era, yet Liston would have been intimidating in any era? Just my thoughts. We're talking about a couple of badass guys here, any way.

That's easy to say. But, many fighters in fact have been intimidated by other fighters, and with that intimidation have shown their fear in the ring. That great idea about not being intimidated goes out the window when reality is staring you in the face.

That would be guessing tho. Coming into the Frazier fight he was 37-0 with about 34 KO's. He was on a streak of 21 stoppages in a row coming into the Frazier fight. I think 2 of these went past round 4.

Tho many of these opponents were quite ordinary it's safe to say word had spread around boxing circles and he was a feared man.

Liston was more imposing to his opposition bc he outsized them.He beat up 180 pounders to 200 pounders alot. Tyson fought guys who towered over him and thought he was beatable bc of it. no one actually fears fighters in the ring at least legit ones,im sure Listons loss to 180/185 pound Marshal who also broke listons jaw played down his unbeatable aura early in his career.

overall having fear of someone? liston would be over tyson bc he was huge in HIS day and he was never over 215 in his prime,he was closer to 210.

Tyson in Listons day? Well fighters would be frightened to death. No one would step in the ring with those little horse shoe hair gloves and we know this...,boxing would end as we know it now....lol

I read that Ali was so nervous about fighting Liston that his blood pressure was through the roof, at about stroke level and the doctor almost cancelled the fight. When they retook it a few hours later it was normal.

A psychologist gave his professional opinion that all of Ali's pre fight antics were the result of fear.

Tyson would have his own division and his fights would consist of him shadow boxing.
