Mismatch. Lyle shows heart for as long as he can possibly last, but takes a horrific beating and is likely gone by round 3...
At their best, Tyson stops him within five rounds. Lyle would have a few moments and could even hurt/knock down Tyson, but the difference in speed would be too big a factor. On the other hand, once Tyson started his long slide, Ron Lyle has all the tools to dominate him and destroy him.
I like Tyson in this one, but I don't think it will be a blow out. Maybe a stoppage in the later rounds.
hmm let me think... wow what a mismatch this wouldve been. Lyle has the uppercut, size, strength, and reach to completely demolish tyson. he would take his heart and it would be over. personally, mike would be too slow for Lyle. he tool the bombs of foreman and almost KNOCKED FOREMAN OUT. something Tyson could never do. Ron lyle's uppercut would **** up tyson's jaw easy. I don't think Tyson makes it by 5 rounds.. maybe not 2 rounds. :/
Ron sometimes had a habit of slugging with sluggers and boxing with boxers, when he might have been better off doing the opposite, yet he did remarkably well at it. The problem here would be Mike's quick start, which might work against him. Lyle was known to get off the deck to win, something Mike famously never managed. Ron came off the floor to drop Foreman, knock out Shavers in his greatest career win, and salvage a split decision victory in his final big win over LeDoux. He won over the 12 round distance against Bonavena, Ellis and Bugner, and showed late round power with a pair of tenth round knockouts. It's sometimes shocking to realize he didn't even begin his professional career until after he turned 30! I think Tyson has to get him early, like Ball and Cooney did. Otherwise, Mike could find himself in a world of trouble. Tyson should win. But Lyle's dangerous enough that I wouldn't put money on the outcome. Ron proved with Ellis that he could handle superior speed, and he dealt with greater power than Tyson's or his own when he outlasted Shavers. Mike did have a blend of power and speed which Lyle never saw though. Ball and Quarry proved that Ron could be beaten by somebody of Tyson's stature. Lyle isn't predictable enough for me to feel comfortable committing to Mike completely.
Tyson should get to him by the 7th -8th rd but Lyle was rugged and would give it back. Prime Lyle took Quarrys best and took Shavers best, only Foreman KO'd him and Lyle came close to stopping him. The Ali fight was a legit but quick stoppage. Lyle loses but is not cannon fodder
I like Lyle alot, and believe he is underappricated and possibly underrated....But Tyson has to much for him to cope with! I could see Lyle being competitive with him for a round to 3, and wouldn't be schocked if he could pull a surprise KD inspit of the Iron Chin claims...But Tyson would have to many weapons for him, and I doubt this goes past 5, I would pick a late 3rd rd to 4th rd stoppage. A shame that this kind of fight couldnot have happened for Tyson for real, as I think Lyle could hurt him early and possibly drop him and then there might not be any more topics like tyson can't can't rise from the canvas to score a win. We will never know for certain, but I think he could in the right situation!
