BAER was already a shell when he fought louis thats like judging louis by the rocky fight .I say baer would have a good chance of catching tyson ,and when baer wasnt scared ,and didnt back down tyson might fall apart as we have seen before.ALL IN ALL I GIVE THE EDGE TO THE SLICKER POWERFUL DEMPSEYLIKE TYSON I SAY TYSON BY KO -ODDS 60/40 BUT DONT UNDER ESTIMATE A DUDE THAT USED TO(KILL)PEOPLE IN THE RING
[and when baer wasnt scared ,and didnt back down tyson might fall apart as we have seen before. If Baer first sees the tape of Spinks-Tyson, then Tyson wins quick. But if Baer first watches Douglas-Tyson, then it could be Tyson on the floor again trying to put his mouthpiece back in. Baer's psych was fragile, and he was basically a loveable clown. But with the natural power he had, I wouldn't want him mad at me.
Finally a H2H that tyson can actually win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Baer seems severely under rated..under appreciated...or commented on by some who have never seen him...not sure which. Tyson probably takes this in 3 or 4 rds. But max would land a few nice shots along the way.
Would be simular to Dempsey-Willard with the smaller man punching the big lumbering fighter all over the ring. Tyson Kayo in Four.
BIG DEE HERE= Your forgeting Tyson`s ***** heart and it was a ***** heart. Baer on the other hand had an enormous amount of guts unlike Tyson. The amount of power punches that Baer took from Joe Louis in their fight would have sent Tyson to the showers real fast as he took a few good shots from Douglas and sent him into another world seperate from our own. Louis was the only man to ever put Baer down for the 10 count and even then he could have gotten up. But if he did he would have just received more of the same. The Louis that Baer faced was the greatest Joe Louis that ever stepped into the prize-ring. It would be hard to find a Boxing Historian that doesn`t consider the Baer fight as Louis`s greatest fight technicality as he was as perfect a heavyweight fighter that has ever stepped into a ring. Louis`s punches were thrown perfectly and with blinding speed. His combinations were thrown in a manner that was and is to this day the prototype for every fighter to learn from. The triple left hook is the single greatest example of punching in boxing history and that`s regardless of weight class because it`s so overwhelmingly impressive. The simple fact is Tyson vs Baer is an unknown outcome because of the mental side of the fight Tyson is a bully that shrinks when stood up to and Baer because of the Frankie Campbell fight would not finish guys off or pull back from hitting guys as hard as he could. In the louis fight he went into the fight with a broken right hand and the New York boxing commission headed up by Bill Brown hated Max Baer with a passion and wouldn`t let him get out of or postpone the fight with Louis so Baer had to fight Joe Louis with a broken right hand. The second bone from the outside on his right hand was broken. That`s why when you watch the fight Baer doen`t throw the right after first rd hardly. He just uses the left hand to jab and hook with. Baer would take Tysons punches and fire right back. Baer`s 81" reach would come in handy against tyson 71" reach. Baer was also a very strong fighter with his 44" chest and 17biceps which many have wrong as they have listed at 14" which is very wrong as Max had big arms and would tie tyson up in close. Tyson was helpless once he was tied up as in his whole career he just stood there untill the referee broke them up. AND THAT`S ON FILM FOR EVERYBODY TO SEE FOR THOSE WHO PUT SO MUCH INTO THE FILM ASPECT OF THE FIGHT GAME. THIS FIGHT BOILS DOWN TO WHO HITS WHO FIRST, HARDEST AND CAN TAKE THE MOST. DON`T COUNT MAXIE OUT OF THIS FIGHT.
I almost got a hardon reading about those 44" oiled up chests and 17" biceps, "big" Dee, but i think i'm gonna go with Tyson anyway...
BIG DEE HERE= Max Baer was a very big guy and his son Max Baer Jr. at 6' 5" 200+ lbs as a 17yrs old. He put the gloves on with Max Sr. in the back yard they were 16oz. training gloves. Max Baer Sr was 6' 3" 240lbs and was 46 yrs old Jr landed a good shot to the body and Max Sr. started to stalk Jr. Then Sr reach out with a left jab that Jr said was light as a feather. Then Jr says he hears his mothers voice coming from far, far, away. Max Sr. had hit him with his right hand, Max jr said it didn`t hurt and there was no pain but he was knocked out. I couldn`t see anything untill my dad`s face came into focus saying are you alright son. He hit me with a right hand I never even saw. MAXIE BAER SR. COULD HIT AND IT ALSO STOPPED JR FROM FIGHTING IN THE RING AND THAT WAS WHY SR KOed HIS SON. TO STOP HIM FROM GETTING INTO THE RING LIKE HE DID.
Would be a very entertaining scrape. Baer was a bit of a one-trick pony with that right hand, but his strength, chin, aggression and heart saw him succeed. Tyson had more tools and was the more naturally gifted of the two. He also sported a better defense. Baer would land a couple hard shots and may even stun Tyson for a spell, but for the most part Tysons speed and power will pick the slower Baer and break him down, most likely by tko in the 5th round.
It is good to see Baer finaly getting his due on this site but some people may be going a bit too far here.
