Max Baer almost certainly still had injured hands going in against Joe Louis. And he let his hands go a bit too, whether he was intimidated I don't know. He didn't fight well, but he threw some big punches and took more than his fair share.
Definitely.Tyson got by in life on intimidation... and none were immune to it during his prime... and few even after his prime.
I am not 100% certain you could say no one stops tyson early. It is true that Baer would load up the right hand. It is also true that the most likely result is that Tyson would avoid the danger and dominate, like he did to everyone in his prime. But dont forget, that Bruno turned him around and stopped him in his tracks, even if just for a second. Tyson also. If Baer were to land the big right hand, it could easily change and/or shape the course of any Baer Tyson blowout. And a blowout similar to say Foreman Frazier is definitely not totally out of the question, particularly if Baer is focused and finds his range early. In fact, i think that if tyson doesnt dominate the first four rounds he does not win. That being said, i do think that this will end in a tyson points victory, similar to the Tucker fight, with Baer making it a little closer and definitely having his moments but not doing enough to win.
Max does better when he can control his range and pace. I don't like this matchup for him, because Max won't have enough control. Although it's possible that Baer fights with a completely unique approach that works. Putting more emphasis on his mobility and jab. But I pick Tyson KO 7
Prime Tyson Ko's Baer 10 out of 10, against ANY version of Baer, that one is a borderline mismatch, nobody is as wide open as Max and swings wide is going to trouble Tyson, as a matter of fact it would be pure target practice and I agree with some posters that this fight would be over at the stare down.
I am a big Max Baer supporter. But this is one fight that he is all wrong for. It will be a wild affair, bombs will be thrown. But Tyson has a granite chin, nearly as good as Baers. Max could land that devastating right hand but I have never seen Tyson go down from one punch, it was combinations that took him down. Max has more speed than given credit for, but Tyson was faster still. He could close the distance quickly and unload on the inside. Max was best on the outside and in dictation of the speed of the fight. Tyson was just to good at getting in quickly for Max to get the range he wants. Max could put together a combination with luck and certainly had the power to hurt Tyson, but I favor Tyson in a mismatch of styles.
so max baer wins because - he wouldnt be intimidated - he had a 44 inch chest - he had 17 inch arms misinterpreted as 14 inches - he knocked out his son really unsure as to how anyone can argue with these facts. baer by KO in 1
If both men are at their best, this would be a real slug fest with both men hurting each other but not being able to secure a stoppage. Ultimately Baer probably takes too many rounds off, and I think Cus reigns Tyson in, and gets him to do what's necessary to secure the decision, similar to Tucker fight if need be, Tyson keeping the pressure on, scoring with jabs and periodic bombs with Baer doing lots of posing and not enough work.
Tyson gets in there early. It would resemble Ruddock v Tyson.. For about 4 rounds, where as Tyson hurt s max badly. 3 kd s later and Tyson has his arms lifted.
