Tyson vs McCall.

No comparison whatsoever? Both are good examples of fighters who peaked at a young age and burned out early. Terry McGovern and Pipino Cuevas fit into that category as well. It doesn't mean they were no good all along. Benitez had had 46 fights by the time he turned 24, Tyson 39. Not much difference there.

 

No one KOs McCall. If Oliver created a gameplan to take Mike into the later rounds, tire him out and go for a KO, it might work. Unlikely but possible. Alternatively a points win for Tyson.

 

At the age of 20 yrs and 5 months Tyson won his 1st title. At 20 yrs and 4 months Benitez won his 2nd title at a higher weight than his 1st title aged 17.

Wilfred was 15 yrs, 2 months old when he turned pro, Tyson was 18 yrs, 9 months.

No comparison at all.

 

Both Tyson and Benitez were clearly past their primes at very young ages but for different reasons. Benitez was past his prime physically, probably the result of all the childhood fights and sparring his pos father subjected him to. Tyson still had all of his physical tools in 1990 but was past his prime skill-wise and psychologically. Most noticeably missing were the head movement, combination punching, and overall explosive aggressiveness that had been so vital to his earlier dominance.

Tyson should win this but I certainly would not put money on it. I've seen these two spar live, twice, and I can tell you that they were scary and brutal. I do understand why Team-Tyson never fought McCall. He was too risky.

McCall is very inconsistent so it's hard to place him anywhere. In a test of sheer strength, he matches Tyson. When they sparred, Tyson could rarely back McCall up and, when Oliver used his jab, Tyson had his hands full. In the two sessions I witnessed, neither fighter had a clear upper hand.

I go with Tyson only because of McCall's inconsistency. These two are proof that Fighter A can beat B,C and D, all of whom would beat Fighter E, who could beat Fighter A. If Tyson is fighter A, McCall could very well be Fighter E, on a given day.

I pick Tyson to win but if Oliver is in good mental shape, he could very well take this fight. Team Tyson knew this all too well.

 

All out war? When did mccall ever fight like that. He almost always fought very lazy, throwing hardly any punches, just following. Against the majority of his largely mediocre opposition this was enough. Against someone of Tysons class it wouldnt be. McCall was a c level fighter for a reason. He had all of the physical potential in the world but mentally he was not there.

 

Precisely. His "war" with Bruno was a yawner. He didn't do squat until a last round rally that couldn't deter Bruno at his greatest weakness.

Sparring Parnteritis. Tyson's body assault would pay dividends. If anyone could knock out McCall it would be Tyson.

Tyson by UD, McCall had a great chin but as many others have already posted his work rate wasn't the best, he was a well conditioned fighter he just didn't throw enough effective combinations to score and be in front come decision time.. If he could grind you down and wear you out he could score the late stoppage, see fights like his fight vs Bruce Seldon it was a pretty even fight until McCall wore him out or Seldon wore his self out however you want to look at it. McCall also isn't a big puncher, his win over Lewis was a perfectly placed shot but he never showed great power. He could knock you out clearly but he wasn't a dynamite puncher, so he'd stay in there and hang tough but against Tyson he'd be in with a much better fighter. Mccall's fight weren't always the most exciting I could see a matchup like Tyson vs McCall looking like Tyson vs Smith. Probably a little more entertaining but though it'd be a fight I'd of enjoyed seeing it might be ugly.

 

McCall was sh!t, just a stocky plodder. The more I think about it, the more clear it is that he doesn't go the distance. Tyson would just tee off on him all night, McCall was get discouarged and frustrated and fold.

 

And here we have it folks. McCall has 71 fights and no one ever looked like knocking him out, but along comes champion the wonder thug, and he does it with ease.
