I think a Prime Rahman still gets knocked out, remember that same Rahman was on the deck twice atleast against Corrie Sanders his style is perfect for a guy like Mike. Rahman doesnt really know how to box, and well tell you what, look at the left hook that set up teh right hand for Lewis in their rematch, that same left hook would be there all day for mike lets not also forget that Rahman keeps his hands up very high, leaving him open to the body. I think Mike takes this one guys.
some people comparing this to rahman vs. tua but tyson is faster and more dangerous then tua. but rahman is better then the bums tyson fought during that time period. look for rahman to give tyson problems early on but catch rock and ko him
Some very interesting perspectives on this fight. Thanks for the responses guys. Where could I find this ESPN doc on Rahman?
2001 Tyson defeated Brian Nielsen in seven rounds. 2001 Raahman split two fights with Lewis in 2000 he also defeated 5' 10" Frankie Swindel stopping him in the seventh. Swindel even in 2001 was not as good as Tyson. It depends on how in shape both fighters are. 2002 Tyson was stopped by Lewis in eight and Tyson won maybe one round of the eight. I hate to ride the fence but whoever shows up in better shape winds the fight. Raahman caught Lewis when he wasn't in the best shape had he been I do not believe that Raahman would've beaten him. I don't know that Raahman could duplicate Lewis perforamnce so I give a slight edge in 2001 Tyson defeating 2001 Raahman.
It never happened because Lewis took out an injunction or something of a similar nature to stop the bout! Lewis knew Tyson would get rounds in against Mercer & a victory over Ray would have made Mike sharp, thus making him better prepared for Lewis! Tyson was hardly active around that time was he!
I thought this was the one fight that could've made Mike Tyson HW champ of the world once again. It would've been nice to see it happen. Tyson would KO'd Rahman in the early rounds in 2001.
that's why i wanted to see it and why don king tried to make it happen. of the people to beat tyson when he was ANY good there was douglas who out boxed his ears off and holyfield who counterpunched (and butted) his way to a knockout. rahman is neither of those: a boxer or a skilled counterpuncher. though, those that troubled him, even early in his career were skilled, strong clutchers. most of those that fight rahman comment that he's INCREDIBLY strong. I think that rahman's jab, long and hard (that's what she said) would find the mark over the first three rounds, even causing some swelling. he would hold out of terror any time mike got close to him and worked the body (admittedly rare for 01 tyson) or threw combinations. however, past the third tyson would increasingly find the distance as rahman was not fast and not a good combination puncher: mike would start to slip the jab and land hard, hard punches wearing rahman down. it's a sloppy fight but by the end of the fifth, tyson's far harder punches, landing in occasional combinations would discourage rahman. Hasim would begin to backpedal, looking for a counter that he doesn't have the hand speed to utilize properly and be outworked and mauled by tyson. in the 8th rahman would hit the deck, survive the 9th and hit the mat twice more in the 10th prompting a stoppage
Its really simple, the Tyson that fought Golota has an easy night, the shot version of Tyson that fought Nielson likely struggles.
I think the comment that sums up this fight might have been made by Jazzo. "Rahman was an accident waiting to happen". Sums it up. Rahman could win every second of the fight against Tyson, but would find a way to completely **** it up.
Hmm. I guess if Tyson really does return in December, we can gauge how he looks against Stankovic - if he's looking more dangerous than Zuri Lawrence you may be right. Zuri rocked the Rock. :deal
