At the time Jones just beat Ruiz. I think there was talk about Tyson vs Jones. Can't remember. Jones was still P4P. Tyson always dangerous, specialy for a formar light heavy weight. My question is, would that be the highest paid and watched event in boxing history? What other two boxer would be a bigger event? Must be a posible fight. Only one comes close, but i don't think they can top that event. Is manny vs floyd.
There was a talk alright and that was all it was - talk. I never thought for a split second that Roy would ever step in a ring with Tyson.
It would've obviously been a huge fight. Don't know if it would've eclipsed Tyson/Lewis or Tyson/Holyfield though. I think RJ wanted the fight but Tyson's people didn't want it.
FAIL. RJ specifically wanted Tyson and when their people said no, he ran out of options at HW and decided to go back down to LHW.
The fight was supposed to happen for the winner of Jones/Tarver 1. Jones decided to give Tarver a rematch because the majority thought Tarver won and there was a lot trash talking from Tarver's camp and Tyson was scheduled to fight Williams. Whoever wins the rematch was going for a Tyson fight(and Tyson was aware of it and wanted the fight), Tarver won and Tyson lost to Williams so that went out the window. Tarver then set his sights on a third fight with Jones and attended Jones/Johnson, Johnson won that and the rest is history.
Tyson's people never said no, at the time when Jones signed to fight Ruiz Tyson was scheduled to fight Etienne a month before that happened. Tyson's people said they wanted one more fight to be ready even though Jones had the WBA title to offer. That's when Jones decided to move down and take care of Tarver who was constantly calling Jones out whenever he was behind ANY camera, Tarver was his best option. In that time Tyson was inactive for 1 year and a few months then signed to fight Williams as his tune up when Tarver/Jones II was signed with a plan to make that fight immediately after Williams. I remember Tyson commenting on Jones' defeat in an interview which became public/popular too quick saying all he needs is one round only to finish off Tarver when they meet. Sadly the Williams loss ruined that.
Roy talked about a lot of fights that he never had any intention of going through with. There was talk of Douglas, Sanders, Tyson, Lewis, Klitschko, Hopkins 2, Holyfield, blah blah blah.
its interesting because if they fought in 03 roy would kill him and his legacy would be different now
So you're saying that Tyson and his people wanted the fight after RJ beat Ruiz but because RJ couldn't handle the trash talking from Tarver, he let go maybe 12-15 million dollars to fight Tarver for a couple of million?
Lol I remember specifically Roy asking for $100 Million Dollars to fight Tyson... Yeaaaaaa I bet he wanted to fight him....
Exactly Anyone with a brain knows that Roy would've been laid the **** out, even against the Tyson that turned up for Etienne or Williams.
Nice way of analyzing my post, cool imagination you have there, circus stuff. As I mentioned in my post, Tyson's team claimed they wanted a few tune ups before accepting that fight. They said the same thing not only to Jones but to Lewis who also wanted a rematch with Tyson. Tarver's trash talking has nothing to do with why the fight didn't happen, they went for Tarver when Tyson claimed he needs a few tune ups first since Tarver was the only good option at the time.
