Tyson and his team WANTED that fight hoping it was Jones since it would be HUGE and bring a lot of money. Only thing is they asked to have one tune up before it happens and that tune up was Williams. When Tarver won they publicly stated they will go for Tarver, the Williams loss is what killed the topic.
Tyson has a really good chin. He could walk through someone like Roy and Tyson only needs ONE punch and it's lights out for a month for Roy. He only needs one good round.
Tyson's people turned it down saying they need at least one tune up. Jones wasn't the only one turned down, Lennox Lewis also offered a rematch which was turned down for the same reason.
Jones' chin was fine, it's when he went back to LHW that messed it up. If his chin was weak he would have been KO'd by Ruiz who landed and landed real good.
They wanted the fight, it was going to bring a lot of money and Jones sure as hell wasn't going to do to Tyson what Lewis did even in losing against Jones.
you've got a good memory (assuming your right). i just remember the fight being talked about (tyson was tight w btalk at the time) and i don't remember tyson showing any reluctance. tarver must have shat himself if/when tyson's team targeted him. that wouldn't have been fair
Tyson at any point in his career would be dangerous for Jones. It's the absolute worst matchup for Roy ever. One shot and he would be out cold. I'd give Roy the nod post 2002, anything before that he gets KO'd.
