Tyson vs Tillis - who really won??

Those two "bums" were bigger and stronger than most of Liston's opposition and they were unbeaten. Ross had one loss on his record, but it doesn't count.

 

Neither guy had ever faced anyone of note so their undefeated records (and Ross was stopped) dont mean ****. Melito particularly had an undefeated record built on fixes and fake fights. If you think that qualifies you as being better than the likes of Eddie Machen, Zora Foley, Cleveland Williams, Floyd Patterson etc. then we can end this discussion here as you have obviously gone bat**** crazy.

 

Dude, how can you call "The Boss" a bum? He only had one B.S. loss and was ranked highter than Razor Ruddock..who Tyson not surprisingly opted to fight instead of taking a real risk that year. Ross don't have the names because they all dodged him..Holyfield and Bowe wanted nothing to do with this guy.

Talking about fixes, everyone knows that nearly all of the fights in the 1950's and 60's were fixed by the mob.

 

So now Ross was more dangerous than Ruddock? Talk about revisionism.

I dont give a **** what Ring magazine ranked Ross. What did he ever do to garner a top ten ranking much less top five and once he was placed in those rankings how long did he stay there? So Im supposed to just toss out everything I know about boxing and Bert Cooper and accept your argument that he was not only a terrific fighter but better than one of the greatest HW champs of all time simply because he came from behind to knock out a novice who was ranked in the top five by Ring for about a month...

 

Ross was a beast though. He very nearly beat the highly regarded NABF light heavyweight champion Tony Willis.

 

Liston would also be a Cruiser by today's standards. He trained down to 198 when he was young, if he was to lose water weight like the athletes of today he could make a great Light Heavy. But a great heavyweight? Huge stretch. He lost to Marty Marshall and got a broken jaw; best keep him away from the big punchers of today.

Liston certainly never fought a bomber like a prime Bert Cooper, who KO'd 31 of his 37 victims, and the six only survived because Cooper sometimes let fighters off the hook after killing a sparring partner, or so it was rumoured.

A light heavy left-over like Cleveland Williams doesn't count.

Why doesnt Williams count? He has a better record than Cooper, it bursts your myth, so he doesnt count...

Williams was bigger than cooper, had more wins, more KOs, less losses, and less KO losses than Cooper, in addition to that he had more wins over top ten rated fighters and more of his losses came against rated opponents. A higher percentage of his losses also came against all time great HOF fighters. Williams was never a LHW and was not a leftover either. When he fought Liston he was in his absolute prime at 26 years old and an 8 yr veteran with only 2 losses on his record in nearly 50 fights.
