one of the best heavies of all time against a guy who fought most his carrer at under 174. Toney was fat at 217.
if Toney were ever to get KO'd it would be in this one...Tyson's combo of speed and power more dangerous to Toney than the likes of Lewis, Foreman etc.
how about Roy Jones or Hopkins against prime Tyson? how would they do? That assumes they had the bollocks to fight Tyson....which they don't unlike JT.

This is the nice set off assets which Tyson is getting to the table: power, speed, skills. I do not agree with the whole SIZE difference point, Toney at 217 lb was not getting too much fat, he had mostly muscles then, Toney at 245 lb is a completely different monster.

So its really Tyson power, speed and skills against Toney slick defense and skills. The other valid point is that Tyson was easily getting frustrated with guys who refuse to getting KOed. Its not the size contest or which natural weight they had 15-25 years ago.

85-89 Tyson didn't get too frustrated in not ko'ing guys, he still won wide decision when he had to. toney's "slick d" ain't gonna do too much because even if tyson isn't landing exactly where he wants (on toney's head and clean to the ribs), those blows will land somewhere and take it's toll. tyson's speed (coupled w/ the force) would overwhelm toney.

now take toney of 04 (holy) vs the tyson that lewis fought and it would be a decent fight but i'd still lean toward tyson b/c of the power difference.

Dont compare for 1 second Sam Peter and a PRIME Tyson.
Peter has not one single thing to measure up to any aspect of Tysons game.

Tyson would annihalate Toney, very, very quickly.

Tyson had legendary speed. James Toney wasn't ever as good as he was defensively at heavyweight the way he was at Middleweight. There is no way the ridiculously overweight version of Toney could ever be quick enough defensively to deal with Tyson. Tyson by KO rounds 4 through 6

Peter is terribly slow and never landed on him. Peak Tyson WAS going to land on you. You have to be strong, and able to tie Tyson up to survive him, two things which Toney isn't and won't be able to do.

    tyson would decapitate him !
stinky gloves, do you realise you are looking silly with the weight thing. as someone else said, could tyson ever have fought at super-middleweight ? two totally different sized fighters.

You can't compare Tyson to Peter of course.

but is this thread designed to bash Toney or what? He only fought at heavy for a while as he was too old and fat.
how would Jones have done against prime Tyson? He fought at heavy too.
could middles like Jones, Hopkins, Hagler and Monzon go up and compete with 245lbers with power?

Ruiz and Tyson are two different kettles of fish.

I'm realizing that Toney from Holyfield fight was not 168 lb but 217 and he just had enough pop and skills to TKO Holyfield. The silly thing is to compare the SAME weight and try to convince the one is bigger than the other.

I agree that Tyson had definitely much more power but the argument af the BIGGER SIZE is just stupid.

In holding ... nobody is comparable to Ruiz, so if Toney was able to hold Ruiz he would be able to hold Tyson.
