So what we have here is a perception that one fighter (Tyson) was 'scared' of the other (Foreman). The 'feared' fighter (Foreman) uses this 'fear' angle to promote his handipicked, big money fights against no hopers and has beens (Morrison, Stewart, etc.) all the while portraying himself as a 'man of the people' type.

Meanwhile, every time the 'feared' fighter is offered an opportunity (and lucrative dough) to actually fight the 'scared' fighter, he declines, normally using some high minded rational for it.

We've seen this act before, haven't we?

Now would be a good time to point out the 'feared' fighter's promoter at the time: Top Rank and Bob Arum.

    Just saying.

I totally agree as long as Tyson didn't blow his load too early. He tended to fade badly later in big fights...

foreman may have hit hard, but tyson had snap to his punch(foreman had no snap was more of just a big swing), and he hit a lot quicker than foreman, imo tyson takes it early, foreman takes it late

And BTW, 90's Tyson KILLS old Foreman.

This notion that Foreman had anything more than a (very, very, slim) puncher's chance against Tyson at that time is revisionist history.

Foreman was SLOW, and looked like crap in alot of his comeback fights (many against bums and has beens). He was ouboxed by the likes of Alex Stewart, Tommy Morrison, and Axel Schulz. (To his credit, he held up well against Holyfield, who fought an unnecessarily dumb fight).

I don't think any HW in history could starch Old George early in a fight. Just rewatch his fight with Morrison and you'll see how much punishment that bowling ball head could take.

Morrison ran in order to beat George. Tyson would still be in punching range no matter what he did. That's why i think it would have been such a great fight and a lot closer than some people think.

Old fat way past it Foreman would have decimated Tyson with ease and tyson knew this so he ducked him.

How many world class fighters did old Foreman 'decimate'? To his credit, he caught a glass jawed Moorer (who had dominated every round).

Again, this meme that has developed that old foreman walks through Tyson is hilarious.
