Tyson was even with Douglas on the cards, going into the 10th...

The Associated Press also had it close - 85-84, with Tyson winning the 4th, 6th, 7th and 8th rounds. I do think the extent to which Douglas dominated every single round except the 8th gets a bit exaggerated.

I agree. Douglas himself stated he found Tyson very difficult to hit because of his angles.

That's a bad card. Douglas is definitely a few rounds ahead.

The fight wasn`t close at all, Tyson hardly landed all night aside from catching Douglas with that uppercut in the 8th.

Tyson didn`t use angles at all in that fight, he just walked in a straight line getting hit constantly.

I think so too- i was just going from the angle of even if one thinks it was closer than most-, they had to have Douglas a few rounds ahead (if they weren't bent that is- or were at ringside but had a bad view as they were sitting behind Elton John wearing his Donald Duck outfit). Maybe Larry O'Connell was hired by the AP to score for them?

For what it's worth, this is my card from about 4 years ago when I actually sat down and scored the fight. This is what I wrote:

Anybody ever sit down and actually score the Tyson - Douglas bout rather than just sit back and take in the amazement of seeing Tyson getting thumped? I saw some blurbs on the fight and never really noticed the scores. Larry Rozadilla had it 88-82 for Douglas through 9 completed rounds, which is sensible. However, the 2 Asian judges had it 86-86 Even and 87-86 in favor of Tyson. I had to sit down on this one.

    Round 1: 10-9 Douglas
    Round 2: 10-9 Douglas
    Round 3: 10-10 Even
    Round 4: 10-9 Douglas
    Round 5: 10-9 Douglas
    Round 6: 10-9 Tyson
    Round 7: 10-9 Douglas
    Round 8: 10-8 Tyson (scores a knockdown)
    Round 9: 10-9 Douglas
    Round 10: KO for Douglas

Total through 9 completed rounds: 87-84 Douglas

Can't see what fight the Asian judges were watching. I know there was a lot of talk of King getting to them, but I doubt that. No one gave Douglas a chance, so there wouldn't be any reason to put anyone in the pocket.

I've not watched the fight for years but isn't there a decent argument for round 9 being a 10-8 for Buster?

Buster Douglas ruins Mike Tyson in round 9. One of my favourite rounds in the fight

There were a lot of crazy cards in favour of the King fighter in those days.

I agree that the two scorecards who scored the fight even or in favour of Tyson were absolutely ridiculous, but Tyson was not that far behind.
The 1st round was very close and Tyson definitely won the 6th and 8th, which made it 87-84 for me. Also the few punches landed more or less cleanly by Tyson had a clear effect on Douglas (especially in the 3rd round where Douglas staggered).

Holyfield KO Tyson is what would have happened.
