Even if you're just throwing out a thread Molotov here: If you have them both stand in front of someone flat-footed and throw only 3+-punch combinations at their chosen preferred range with only bad intentions on them, Tyson's punches will be closer, and also harder and landing faster. Is that meaningful? Meh. How long can you stay at your preferred range and tee off with bad intentions? That doesn't happen over the course of a fight unless it's a pretty short fight, among two top tier men. Their speed is different, and at long range, mixing different mustard quantities onto each knuckle-sandwich, and using greater length and range, Ali would seem faster in the ring, I think. Frazier wasn't faster than Ali, but there were going to be times when he was whipping that left hook out too fast for Ali to get the better of the exchanges because he was up on him. So, if Tyson were in there, wouldn't he also look faster at times? Sure. But not enough times to give the overall impression that Ali didn't have the speed advantage. I don't think. But maybe. But I don't think. But very possibly, not just possibly. Definitely not plausibly. But a very definitively very possible type of maybe kind of thing. I think we can all say unanimously that maybe is definitely strongly maybe.
And since no one else then will know what I just typed either...that means I have given away no advantages.
Relievers in baseball who can only pitch 1 inning can usually throw faster then the starters. Not that Tyson was faster but if his fastest was faster then Ali that would be individual punches and bursts. Tyson might win a punching speed contest but is that applicable boxing speed that an opponent has to worry about for more then a fraction of the fight? Tyson had a sufficiently short reach where his punches are going to look slower because they are travelling more ground and take more time to reach the target. Tyson is also very heavy for his height so if Tyson was as light as Ali he almost certainly would be faster. And Tyson would thus be "naturally faster". But thats a paper LHW or MW Tyson that didn't actually exist.
Nonsense. Ali was so fast that when he switched off the light in his room, he made it into bed before it was dark.
