The fighter that I find myself comparing him to is Terry McGovern.

Mike Tyson's actual boxing skills beyond the power of his punches were in a different solar system than Marciano's.

    Multiple parallels between them, Janitor.

    Fiercely aggressive style.

    Huge punchers.

String of consecutive early round KO's.

    Stopped taller, heavier men.

Stars that shined ever so brightly, but not for so long.

    Both suffered with mental issues.

    Squandered their money.

Did Rocky squander his? I thought he hoarded it to the point where nobody knew where most of it was when the plane cracked up.

Janitor stated that the fighter he would most compare Tyson to was Terry McGovern.

I was drawing parallels between Tyson and McGovern.

As you say, Marciano is known for being very frugal. Though, as you also allude to, he did reportedly squander large amounts of it, technically, as he didn't trust banks and so largely dealt in cash, storing his huge wedges of it in various places, many of which are supposedly yet to be discovered to this day.

They are the same height with a nearly identical KO rate, number of KOs and number of title defenses.

Robyn Givens name was Barbara, Mike Tyson's nickname was The Brockton Blockbuster, he became champion by defeating Jersey Joe Walcott, not Trevor Berbick and he was managed by Al Weill, not Cus D Amato. Ha Ha Ha.

That was until Tyson got his ass kicked by Buster Douglas in 1990...then quit by biting Holyfield 's ear. Hardly "Marciano" like. No QUIT in Marciano...

I don’t have to disgrace Tyson. He did a fine job of doing it himself.

Always an excuse. Buster waxed him. That’s what happened in actual fact. Holy beat him twice inside the distance and didn’t lost many rounds doing so.

If Tyson as heavyweight champ didn’t train properly, whose fault is that? And I’m not sure he trained any differently for that fight than he did for Tubbs and Carl Williams, to name two. But since he lost to Buster, his apologists have to make excuses.

Here’s what has been true of sport since the first athletic contest of any sort: Winners adjust; losers make excuses.

It was their STYLES that people saw similarities with and yes some have made that comparison

well, Buster lost to 3 or 4 opponents that Tyson defeated and did not achieve even some of Tyson's success. Mike was also a huge favorite in this fight and that was probably the reason, probably 42-1. Of course, people even who know boxing are wrong, but if so many people thought that Tyson was much better and their results were also completely different, I think it can be concluded that the fight in Tokyo is not very reliable and should be treated as an accidental result or resulting from something. Of course, you may believe that Douglas was born too early and that if he had been born in 1966, he would have repeated all of Mike's successes, or that for some reason he did not do it.

Yes he reminds me of Dempsey. Mike loved him, it was a compliment to be compared to the Mauler.
