For the first time in my life I agree with a post of yours. He was 12 years old and already 190 pounds of solid muscle. Tyson was a freak -steriods my ass. AT 12?!

I always suspected that the bald patch was a product of his anxiety. There are a few people I know who have this disorder -it's called "Trichotillomania" and it involves pulling out your hair from the scalp area, eyebrows, pubic area... it's a byproduct of depression, OCD, as well as anxiety.

I think a lot of Holyfield fans try to taint Tyson with the same brush lest they chance losing a bit of ground.

I'm a massive Tyson fan and I will tell you there is a 95% chance post-prison Tyson was roiding, pre-prison Tyson is a different matter

Post prison Tyson worked with steroid guru Chad Nichols

In his move up to HW Holyfield worked with Fred Hattfield (AKA Dr Squat the 1000lb squating legend), Lee Hanney and a few others that were reknowned for steroid knowledge

Steroids can cause pattern baldness. That being the classical baldness beginning near the temples or on the crown. Mike's looked more like ringworm or some other fungus.

Could be an abrasion. I still have a bald patch from diving into a pool and scraping my head on the bottom. Lucky I didn't break my neck.

Thanks for letting me know I have an adult onset of this "Trichotillomania". Another disorder!!!! Great....I don't pull out the hair, but play with my bald spot. Probably stress related, 3 kids, putting food on the table, etc.

I doubt Tyson was taking steroids in those days.

After he lost, and esp. after prison, yes, at some point I suspect he would've used steroids.
I've always been intrigued by his physique in his first fight after prison (v. Peter McNeeley). Never seen him look quite like that, before or after.

I agree.. although Tyson actually lost inches on his neck after prison. He was built more like a juggernaut boxer type than a body builder when he was 21. Boxer's muscles are functional -which is why I always thought Bruce Seldon and Frank Bruno's builds were for the birds. Which was what they were. Birds.

Hagler -now that is a fighter's build.
