All I will say is those who backed Spinks to ko Tyson let alone outbox him must have been drunk and high.

The botha and golata performances were very poor. It golata didn't quit with his usual brain fart it would have been an interesting fight because Tyson was being too one dimensional with the one big shot to the head strategy. It was sad to see such a talented multi dimensional boxer become a lazy one dimensional head hunter

Tony Tucker and mitch green were a good fights too. It showed Tyson could adjust and just out box opponents and settle for UD if the knock out didn't come.

That's true. After the fight, I'm sure they realized how extremely wrong they were. Of course there were those who knew Spinks would get clobbered.

Well, Golota's brain farted because he broke his cheekbone, was concussed, and had a disk in his neck knocked out of place. Imagine fighting Mike Tyson with those injuries.

The boxing public was genuinely divided.

Arum, Bonecrusher Smith, Holmes and Duran all picked Tyson.

Arum said the fight will be over as soon as Tyson nails Spinks and he definitely will nail him.

Duran told Tyson to be calm and just walk Spinks down, because Spinks will be nervous.

I did a thread on all the pre fight hype and what everyones opinions were at the time, thread seems to have been taken down.

I was only a boxing mad kid at the time but I remember wanting Spinks to win but for the life of me, I just couldn't figure out how he could do it. He wasn't as big, strong or as hard hitting as previous Tyson victims like Bonecrusher, Thomas and Bruno, nor could he box like guys like Tucker, Biggs and Williams. So if he couldn't hit hard enough or be strong enough to hurt Tyson, didn't have the skills to outbox Tyson and keep him away for 12 rounds what could he do to actually win?

People were actually thinking that Spinks would win because he had an 'awkward style' that would confused and baffle Tyson enough to win on points but to me that just sounded crazy talk. Still, even I didn't think it would only last 91 seconds.

    Spinks was a 4 to 1 underdog.
