Emptying your balls is much worse than having a broken hand in a boxing match..... This is irrefutable.
In a way it could be Larry Holmes, even though he was ready for his pension Tyson's performance stacks up well against the other fighters that faced him in that era.
He had about 4-5 wins that were very close in value and quality that all could have qualified for his best.
Back in the era of Tyson's first "prime", there were legit observers who thought Tyson would have beaten prime Ali due to styles.
Too me Tyson's best win was his destruction of Larry Holmes. Yes Holmes was inactive at the time but I still think he had quite a bit left at least enough to trouble mostly anyone hed have faced that night but Tyson went right through him. Holmes would have a pretty good comeback years later and no one would nearly beat him the way Tyson did. The win against Spinks was also a good one. His wins over Tucker, Thomas and Berbick we're all impressive as well.
It's overlooked but the only reason Holmes didn't make it out of the round is because he got his arm stuck in the rope which enabled Tyson to get a free shot in.
I cant go for a guy that didnt show up. Only a hairs breadth behind Bruce Seldon. At least some of Tysons other victims came to fight. If a guy doesnt come to fight, his name or reputation means nothin.
Not sure what that means. Spinks was a disgrace as ' HW' champ (?) After his gifted decisions over Holmes ( Larry had p##sed alot of people off) he defended against Stefan Tangstead and and a guy well know to be strugglin with alcoholism. Then took a 13:5 $ million payday to collapse in seconds. You will see from my posts i rarely criticise a fighter, but Spinks ( at heavyweight) was a thief.
For the past 29 years I've always wondered if Michael threw that fight too. He didn't seem thrilled to be in that ring at all. And from the opening bell never really got going. I think the only reason he took that fight to begin with was because the purse was simply too big for anyone to resist. He didn't appear to be a man who had any intention of regaining the title let alone defending it. Had the money not been there he very likley would have retired after the Cooney fight. With all that said I think Trevor Berbick was probably his best win. There are other wins of his which one could argue were marginally better. But Tyson became the youngest champ in history that night and did it in devastating fashion.. And Berbick was coming off a win over Pinklon Thomas who by the end of 1985 to early 1986 was viewed in some circles as the best heavy out there.
