A couple of weeks ago I was on this site arguing with a few fans who obviously were overrating Tyson's chin. They said he had a great chin which is obviously not the case. I pointed out that Tyson was koed 5 times in 55 fights, twice in his 20s and 3 times before he was considerd shot. I asked those who greatly overrate Tyson to give me a list of other great chined fighters koed 5 times or 3 times when they were still not shot. This would settle the issue. I am still waiting 2 weeks later for this list. I will take it by the inability of them to find all these fighters that I won that debate. Just a thought.

Don't look at his defeats/ko record. He had a very good chin.

Tyson had a very good chin and could take a decent shot, most of his KO resulted from him taking a decent amount of punishment and in some cases mentally giving up.

Every fighter has taken good shots. Tyson has a medium to weak chin.

Most every fighter takes a decent amount of punishment. Can't think of another very good chined fighter who couldn't finish 10 % of their fights because they couldn't stand up to his opponents punches.

Tyson had a very good chin in that he could take a great shot, he just didn't have very good recooperative powers when hurt, nor the mental ability, though most of this took place past anything that could be considered his prime. He very clearly proved by taking shots against the likes of Ruddock and other huge punchers that he could take boatloads of punishment. Anyone who says otherwise, such as the threadstarter, is an idiot.

Tyson never went down from just one punch (well.. the Holyfield I fight.. but that was also an accumulation of punches before that hook).

    He's got an iron chin.

do you consider him not shot against lewis?
he has nowhere near a "great chin" but that uppercut that put him away vs douglas was a great shot.
id say he has a good chin.

8/10, something like that. Not David Tua type chin, but damn good.

Tyson went down from one punch against Evander, but Kid Gavilan went down in a very similar fashion against Basilio, they both got right up and carried on. Gavilan went on to win and Tyson never, but thats a different type of a mark of greatness, not something that should go against his chin. Tyson never had a great chin, because he could eventually be beaten out of the fight. But he had a very good chin and could take lots of punishment.

Ditto on Sweet Pea's last sentence

David Tua honestly never took punches from a prime Holyfield, nor did he take the amount of damage to the head against Douglas or Lewis.
