It was before the Holmes Fight he puched a hole in wall, I remember seeing pictures of the hole in the wall in Tysons dressing room, it was from one of them old ring magazines from back in the day I believe but the story was true. I'm just not sure which fight it was though.
The thing that is so intimidating is MIKE TYSON, they could be playing Hall and Oats and the Klits would still be terrified, and yes Vitali, Vitali is a boxer, prime Tyson is a better boxer and a killer.
Yeah that story is probably extremelly exageratted, but it makes an honest point. Prime Tyson was a killing machine.
From Butch Lewis, Spinks manager, he said Tyson punched walls starting at 4:55. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5xsyixuNh4&feature=related[/ame]
That prefight was odd. It was delayed so that the atmosphere felt surreal I remember people saying. I was watching it live, but I just remember it quiet. I was not expecting Mike to win in the first round. I think I picked Spinks to win this one.
Once I studied Spinks' career after this did I realize the significance of this demolition. He was one of the greatest light heavies of all time during arguably history's best era for light heavyweights and was never defeated there. He moved up to heavyweight where he made history by doing what so many greats before him failed to do: be an undisputed lightheavyweight champion who moved up to heavyweight and won the heavyweight title from a future ATG heavyweight and long reigning champ. He could handle heavyweights. He just could not handle Tyson and his red-hot tear-you-to-shreds-as-fast-as-I-can start in the fight. Plus he was scared crapless....something very hard to do to a fighter of his calibre and experience. I was kinda like Liston-Patterson except Patterson put up more of a fight against Liston.
Spinks was so spooked, he didn't WANT to make it out of the 1st round...if he had any heart that night, and actually wanted to win, with the still-decent skills he had at that point, he could have at the very least, made it a competitive fight.
great moent in boxing history. Tyson was amazing then.. but he would not have had the same sky high confidence vs. a Klitschko that might. he knew Spinks was scared and it's easy to be confident when your faster stronger and know your opponets is scared. Tyson would probably have been scared himself vs. a Klitschko. total different ballgame.
