Nah your probably right about douglas, Holyfield had to headbutt Tyson into submission and Douglas was the first fighter to stand up to Tyson

If only Cus was still around keeping Tyson in line his career may have been better off

 

Douglas beat an undefeated Tyson, who was undisputed Champion in his prime. He pulled off (in my opinion) the biggest upset in the history of the sport.

well also Tyson was past it vs Williams but to be honest who woulda thought

 

100% douglas since that was the beast prime version of tyson, I wonder what would have happened if it was holy who took mike's 0 if the fight went trough like they planned it, it would have been a huge legacy boost.
The post prison wins only holy gets credit the first time imo, tyson was way past it later and was in psycho mode in the second holy fight after the headbutts being ignored again.

 

Douglas will get the most credit as history looks back, it's the biggest upset in the history of sports. Mike's focus was totally off for that fight, he had far too much fun in Japan.

Where as the Tyson that Holyfield beat was maybe not the physical specimen Douglas faced, I do think that version of Iron Mike was focused by the known threat in front of him.

Lennox Lewis beat a ghost of Mike Tyson, he got the biggest name of his era on his resume when he could, much like Calzaghe got Roy Jones.

 

Douglas easily, though at the time Tyson was often not out the news for getting into late night situations here and there. He was already not doing what he should and it was only a matter of time.

Douglas, easily. Mike was a wrecking machine in those days. Certainly the biggest upset the sport has ever seen.

After prison Tyson was becoming a shadow of his former self, so while those Holyfield fights are good wins for Evander... they don't carry the weight Douglas win does.

Lewis fought an old, washed up, broke version of Mike and shouldn't even speak of that win out loud. It was shameful that it took place after Mike was basically out to pasture and only fighting to pay the IRS. Similar to Joe Louis, who was forced to do the same thing, tarnishing his legacy.

 

This. I can't think of any match-up in any sport between two opponents or team where one was so heavily favoured to win and went on to lose. People not old enough to remember have no idea just how big Tyson was, he was a true phenomenon. It made it seem worse that Dougas was an unknown to the wider world, but Mike would have a heavy favourite against any opponent at that time.

 

I don't think it was shameful at all, you only have to see Mike's gratitude at the end of the fight to see what it meant to him and it's not like he was paid peanuts. It wasn't the greatest match-up in boxing history, but certainly no worse than say, Wlad-Mormeck or Vitali-Chisora which truly are shameful fights.

There was nothing competitive about that match up and we all knew that before they even got in the ring.

Mike was completely faded and Lennox was the Unified Lineal Champion.

It would be like Wlad facing James Toney in 2012.

Massive size difference, massive conditioning difference, Lennox had a great corner and Mike's was a mess.

Complete mismatch.

Now..if that fight would have happened in 90/91... Lennox would have been the one on the canvas...for sure.

 

Tyson vs Lewis in 91 would have been a great fight.

Tyson vs. Lewis that we got was like watching Ali vs. Holmes.
