What did he say? Just two over the hill guys looking for one more payday. There is only destruction of your opponent or surrender, and these guys are doing niether. Classic ****! Anyone have a video of that exchange with Jim Gray?
That was some funny sh*t. He wasn't totally wrong, but it was a brutal assessment. Bernstein went into immediate damage control mode.
I like Mike, but I disagreed with his assessment as well. He claimed that they weren't trying to hurt each other, I definitely think they were, especially in the first half.
It was a solid assessment. That wasn't the Mayorga the world knew. He was cautious and didn't press. That wasn't the Cotto the world knew. He wasn't punching while being punched and didn't stalk at all. He fought a much better Pure Boxing fight against both Mosley and Margarito. The fight was a fun scrap, but for both guys history? It didn't elevate either of their games. The lesson in that? Mike Tyson is still Mike Tyson!
One of the few times I disagree with Tyson lol.... Seriously though, Cotto was fighting exactly how he should have been fighting. But yes, Mayorga is over the hill, and Cotto isnt what he was. But primes and peaks dont last forever, a large chunk of a fighters legacy involves what he does when hes no longer at his peak, and we will see what Cotto does.
He sounded drunk and he probably didn't even know who was fighting. A week earlier he totally lost his mind cheering for Judah who was in a dull fight before the KO (I know they are friends). Mike shouldn't crap on two professionals trying to earn a living when the fight was entertaining. That and guaranteed that Tyson got free tickets.
