Lewis' win over Tyson couldn't possibly be more insignificant. That's a fact. His talk of it being "the win he needed" is hilarious.
I agree with the insignificant part. It'll just look good on the record books 50 years from now. Some may find it hilarious but I personally feel it was a ****** he had to get off his back. The one remaining guy of his era that he hadn't beat wether past it or not. It's probably the equivelant of Paq v DLH or Calzaghe v RJJ today.
tysons wins are more impressive although his whole career resume is inferior to lewis's the manner in which he defeated his foes is something lennox could never accomplish also note we never got to see mike in his prime
Agreed. I think a prime Tyson vs Prime Lewis would be a great fight. I give it to Tyson 60/40 or 55/45. But I place Lewis higher ATG due to his whole career. If Tyson had kept Rooney I believe everyone here would be debating him as possible #1 ATG.
You asked who's wins were more impressive... Definately Tysons wins... and both early, conclusive KO's...
Spinks, as great a lightheavyweight he was, at heavyweight he was a joke. Beating a mentally depressed, cokea addicted Cooney? An unfocused, old Holmes, while clearly losing the rematch against a motivated old Holmes, followed by two years of inactivity and dropping the belt to avoid Tucker because he knew he'd lose? Holyfield is the proven heavyweights against big guys in their primes, unlike Spinks. Holyfield just beat the monster in Tyson (twice), avenged the Moorer loss with 6 knockdowns or so and held two belts. Lewis shut him out but was shafted by Don King corrupted judges. The Holmes that Tyson beat was maybe the equivalent of the Tyson that Lewis beat, but here is the essential difference: Lewis himself was 36 years of age when he beat Tyson, whereas Tyson was 23 and at his peak when he beat Holmes. In 2002, Tyson was basically reduced to a huge puncher who had great handspeed & power for 3-4 rounds and after that he's reduced to a punching bag with one hell of a chin. Still, a good win for someone who is 36 and just got stopped by Rahman. Many people forget this.
You have a point, Tyson won more decisively vs Spinks than Lewis did over Holy, the Tyson/Holmes fight is about equal to the Lewis/Tyson fight as both losers were miles past it by then. Its close either way... I rank Tyson above Lewis on my list anyway at numbers 4 & 9.
I agree! I think, Lewis' win over Tyson is very overestimated by Lewis' fans. Tyson was TOTALLY SHOT in 2002. He had only one fight in 20 months prior to Lewis fight - it was fight against old fat jorneyman Brian Nielsen. He was KO'ed in 4th by Danny Williams soon, and quit against Kevin McBride. That said, I still rank Lewis over Tyson in my All-Time list.
its not only the fact tyson KOd them....keep in mind, in a combined 25 plus years as pros, neither one of these guys have ever been KOd...tyson knocked them out..and quick....throw tony tubbs in there too...he had never been kod in his career and was a former heavyweight champion a few years earlier at that point. tyson was a beast in his first 37 fights and all of 23 years old while doing it.
shows you know nothing about boxing if you compare tyson-lewis to tyson-holmes after tyson KOd holmes...holmes went to to have 24 more fights...going 21-3 and the 2 losses coming in world title fights by desesion to holyfield and mccall. then he lost a 12 rounder to brian nielson, which many people thought he won. after tyson lost to lewis he fought 3 more times losing 2 of them and being kod in both losses... hardly a valid comparison you made.... dealatsch
* Shows he's know nothing about boxing A) Putting Tyson ahead of Lewis and B) Placing him 9th all time. He's top 5!!!! atsch
