Nielsen worse than either of the Irish Massholes, though? I mean, he knocked out McNeeley h2h - and his resume has a lot more trimming on it than McBride's, even if a lot of it has asterisks. He posted victories against some big names of yesteryear at least in old Holmes, old Spoon, old De Leon, old Norris, and old Tubbs - and beat some younger guys with unbeaten (if padded) records in Guy, Reed, and Steele. His best actual wins are probably over "respectable but nothing special" types like Jeremy Williams and former cruiser fringe contender Dicky Ryan (splitting a pair with him). Pretty ****, but it easily beats out McBride's accomplishments other than hitting the jackpot with a washed-up Tyson.
Azzer....its all relative to time. As someone said Mcneeley was after a huge layoff so it was acceptable for Michelle to fight a lower grade boxer. So do you mean worst opponent ?...in which case you've had your answers.....or...worst performance v Tyson...in which case Seldon.. Also an honourable mention to Mike Spinks who came in terrified,he was looking for the floor asap. Best performance for overall safety....Bonecrusher Best performance surprisingly competetive..Tillis Most courageous....Ty Biggs Worst......Mcneely Francis Cop Out...Seldon Dissapointing..Spinks
McBride was way better than McNeeley. No McBride wasn't great but I mean come on, McNeeley was a total can whereas McBride was only a half can. McNeely was the worst by far imo.
Given the time frames and perameters you've given us, I'll go with McNeeley. Dude had heart but his skills and athleticism didn't meet the standards of the pros.
The Spinks bout was definitely the biggest letdown and anti climax. Most of us reckoned Tyson would win but Spinks was fancied to at least give him a fight.
i didn't really want to count the guys up until his title run because, every fighter has those 15-20 'bums' that they beat when they turn pro. thought id focus on his career AFTER winning the belt
Seldon has a better record than most... but as far as his display against Tyson it was right up there as one of the poorest.
Orlin Norris was actually a cruiser champ and for a short time "ducked" by other heavy's at a title shot because he was a good fast boxer.
the question wasn't who fought the worst against Tyson, it was who was Tysons worst opponent. Well worst after he got the title I think it was? Based on performance and effort in the ring the worst could of been Seldon? On effort, McNeely gave a great albeit short effort. Simply put, Peter was lucky to ever get in the ring with Tyson, the level of competition being so great between the two. Yes it was after a long lay off. No I don't fault Tyson for taking a easy type fight after such a lay off. Regardless, McNeely was a club fighter that had no top level skills whatsoever other than heart which he had plenty of some would say too much, lol Seldon had great hand speed. McBride was actually decent at using his size to win rounds with basic skills plus very good strength. Spinks was talented as hell but simply small for Tyson and not strong enough to tie Tyson up or push him around effectively. The only thing McNeely had going for him was he was a legitimate sized heavyweight. The McNeely fight was in some ways very interesting as it showed that a bigger guy has a huge advantage against a smaller far more talented guy even if that bigger guy has very poor skills overall. At least it shows this in some real ways if not in all ways. How so? What was it like 93 seconds long total or was 93 seconds against Spinks? Whatever, they were both less than a round. Within that that round McNeely with size and great heart pushes and shoves Tyson around the ring keeping him from getting planted long enough to prevent Tyson from hitting McNeely with full power for over a minute which is in my opinion impressive. You take a small crap heavy weight rather than that big heavy lug and I would bet Tyson without being pushed backwards wins with his first 3 salvos within 30 seconds with 15 of those seconds being the first series of run and ducks the smaller Guy would have to use to survive that long against Tyson. My point was McNeely was crap on a top level and for nearly a full minute he is in a real fight with Tyson on a top level no matter how wild and crazy he looked within that short period of time. While Tyson is missing big shots because McNeely is pushing and swarming Tyson firing his big wide crazy shots right back at Tyson full force forcing Tyson to alter his attacks while in mid-attack. In a way it was a blueprint to helping McBride do a great and more well planned and well executed plan later on in Tysons career. Both McBride and McNeely used their size and strength really well to fight with Tyson all things considered. McNeely used it well for about 60 seconds or so, lol, McBride did this really well considering the skill level between him and Tyson even with Tyson washed up in many ways by that time. McBride put on a great performance of using STRENGTH to beat SKILL and speed against Tyson. Yes Tyson was crap at that stage of his career compared to his prime. However, he still had some of the fastest and hardest hitting hands in the world. McBride fought Tyson really smart. He uses his shoulder size and overall bulk to rush Tyson smothering and swarming him making it very hard for Tyson to connect with full power. Yes for sure Tyson was not in his earlier shape and had problems with his stamina sucking and McBride came to fight Tyson as his lifes quest in great overall shape hell bent to beat Tyson,, but still, I was always impressed with both of those performances by those two Irish goofs against Tyson, all things considered. Both of them tried to win.
