I can tell how good Golovkin is by all the hate for him. Golovkin's fight with Stevens was the third highest rated fight on HBO last year..............Golovkin has an excellent defense, his timing is really excellent, balance, etc., he had 350 amateur fights which has made his a great professional. Golovkin is fun to watch..........Vladimir Klitschko gets a lot of hate because he is the best out there.....................I guess Lomochenko will be hated after he beats Salido in only his second pro fight, then there is Kovalev....................SOB Ward is running from Stevenson, even if Stevenson fights him at 168..............
i agree. when i sparred with people with no power, I just walk through their punches not giving a ****
I saw the fight and Golovkin bewildered Stevens when he knocked him down. Never seen such a dazed and surprised expression from a fighter that was handed his jock strap to him. Stevens does have power but I think Golovkin can take a huge punch so he will have to be outpointed to lose
He's Pernell Whitaker defensively, has Marvin Hagler's mental strength and the punching power of Julian Jackson, only better. And he already has a GOAT/HOF record, I mean.. Ishida,Stevens,Macklin and now ATG Adama, and lets not forget Gabriel Rosado. Gennadyi Gennadyevich GloveKING is only 31, has been world champion since 2010, and is already ALMOST P4P #1.
His defense is fine he just doesn't need to use it against guys who are not on his level. If someone isn't much of a threat to you there is no point fighting defensively. May as well fight aggressively, take a few shots to land a few and entertain the viewers. You don't need to be a defensive master to be a great boxer anyway.
That's what I think people aren't appreciating about GGG's defense- he takes a few shots despite being in front of his opponent every minute of every round. A few shots- not nearly as many as critics are acting like. It's damn hard to maintain defensive integrity while being an action fighter, but Golovkin does it. Part of the reason his chin holds up when he does get hit is that he hasn't run it into the ground by ignoring defense his entire career.
