His defense is good for the style he fights. He doesn't eat unncessary punches, he uses his shoulder to block shots, parrys punches well. His defense is solid.
Great defense. Textbook. Blocks, catches, parrys, bobs, weaves, counters, jabs and controls his distance. Is this stuff over your head.?
he's doing it at such a small distance those who do not know what to look for do not see it. Barely getting out of the way requires a lot of skill and is extremely effective in landing reaction or counter punches. It's sort of similar to how your garden variety fan doesn't notice those small but extremely important steps and glides in a fighter's footwork, the big steps they see but the little adjust aren't recognized and those small steps are what separates a good fighter from a bad fighter.
This. Style reminds me of Joe Louis. Very economical. All you need to do is look at him sparring Chavez to see how skillful he is. You can't fight damn near 400 bouts and have a non distorted face like his if your defence is not good. Also, has GGG trained in greco wrestling at some point? I saw some very interesting clinch work in this most recent fight.
He has always trained in wrestling and still does. You can see during the clenches that he always gets the leverage on his opponent and wastes very little energy doing it. The first time I saw him I could tell he was a wrestler, his foot work is a dead give away, low short shuffling steps instead of bouncing. He is always positioning for leverage and balance, so I can't really figure out how his timing and distance aren't screwed up.
Fantastic leverage, timing, distance, tons of power, fantastic stamina, and his defense is really great, even whenever he does get hit he moves his head enough to take the sting off the punch..........reflexes are awesome!!!
OK. You dont have a clue. You dont understand boxing defence concepts and stategies. What do you know about boxing besides nothing.
If you think he has good defense you know nothing about boxing at all. Right now he is getting hit by bums. GGG would lose to Ward and Froch and it would not even be close. There is a reason he is already old and still a contender fighting (stay busy fights). If he was as good as people on this forum says he is he would have been a big star when he was in his early 20's. We all know why he gets hype on this forum.
I guess half Asian is considered white now if you are hyping him? We all know you're racial bias. Man you have issues. I never seen anyone lie the way you lie.
I can't think of any fighter that doesn't get hit. Cotto hit Floyd with good shots. Mosley hit Floyd with good shots. Even Guerrero got in some good shots. It's part of boxing. DEFENSE is what you do, the adjustments, to minimize your opponents offense. Floyd adjusted as he always does and won decisively each time. I don't think anybody is saying GGG's defense is at the level of a Rigo or Maweather but to say GGG doesn't have a defense is *******ed. GGG doesn't get hit that much for his aggressive style.
During his fight preparation for Macklin he was training the Greco clinch with Grachev in Big Bear. Makes sense that Golovkin has a wrestling background because it seemed odd that an American trainer like Sanchez would have incorporated that type of training/conditioning for his fighters.
He won Gold at the World Amateurs in 2003 when he was 21 years old. He won Olympic silver in 2004 when he was 22. I know that GGG isn't black, doesn't speak Spanish and doesn't use the Philly Shell. That doesn't mean he doesn't have skills though. You boys need to stop being contrarian for the sake of being contrarian and just admit that GGG has skills. It's ok. GGG is just as white as Andre Ward. You'll still be able to show your face at the barber shop and the welfare office.
