The Association of Boxing Commissions is asking that Tommy Morrison undergo a blood test in Mexico before he is allowed to fight Saturday night on a Top Rank-promoted card in Leon. "The ABC is very concerned that Mr. Morrison is being allowed to participate in a boxing match," association President Tim Lueckenhoff said of the former heavyweight champion, who was licensed to fight in West Virginia last February in his only sanctioned bout in the United States since he tested positive for HIV in 1996. "We will encourage the Mexican Boxing Commission overseeing the match, as well as Top Rank, to present Mr. Morrison for a supervised blood draw." According to Top Rank matchmaker Bruce Trampler, Mexico does not require blood tests. Morrison is scheduled for a bout on pay-per-view television against Matt Weishaar of Atchison, Kan. full story: http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/sports/articles/0208boxing0208.html?&wired
It's the right stance to take. I really hope they do test, but I'm not exactly holding my breath. Until Tommy gets a clean bill of health from the NYSAC, the suspicion will always remain.
With a corrupt, third world government like Mexico, it is hard to believe that anyone would think that any Boxing commision there would start doing blood tests to accomodate the ABC. Morrison could become a Heavyweight version of Edwin Valero, only able to fight in places with lax, dodgey commisions.
Morrison knows his blood is HIV+ so he will probaly try to bribe his way into the fight:roll:.. I sincerely hope sooner rather than later Morrison is KTFO by some BUM so he will just go the hell away already:verysad
