That's not what I saw. Belfort dropped Franklin with his follow up hook and when Rich went into the turtle position - Belfort landed a hammerfist to his right ear, a hook to his left ear and the force of that second blow was such that it turned Rich's head - exposing the back of his head to Vitor. Knowing his opponent was completely incapacitated - Belfort stopped punching and stood up.
Didn't think he would do it but Im not surprised. When the fight was first announced I did say Kampmann should look to take it to the ground and not stand with Daley. His stand up has always been explosive, but he needs 2 work on his ground game. It would be good for him to train at one of the top camps in the US.
I think his body can do it if his mind tells him to. I think he's mentally shot and too afraid to pull the trigger. Instead of fighting on instinct, he's over thinking everything. "Hmmm, if a throw a left kick right now, what are the chances I'm going to get Gonzaga'ed? Oh, well, I missed my window of opportunity anyway. Maybe I'll just back into the cage."
Except he's not the same Belfort that blitzed Ferrozo and Abbott. He's a smarter fighter who is more selective in his attack, waiting for the right opportunity instead of just bullrushing in - because he has to be; the level of opposition he faces now demands it. He's BETTER than the old Belfort.
Good move by Drwal to move to MW. I like him, he always comes to fight. He can get a bit wild with his stand up but the guy has power. After his loss to Thaigo Silva (which he was doing well in until he gassed) he has been training in the US, so hopefully he keeps on improving.
Drwal is at 185 now so I doubt a rematch will happen. I think Quarry would be a good next matchup for him. I'm sure it would be entertaining too.
