Don't see what boxing has to do with it. Anyway, there's no real reason they'd rather have Lyoto there than Shogun, not corrupt imo, just a really ****ing terrible decision.
I gave Machida the first three rounds. I thought he was landing the more solid shots to the body while Rua was working the legs. Machida also stuffed all of Shogun's takedown attempts and the few exchanges where they traded blow for blow I thought Machida was better off. After that Shogun took control for the rest of the fight and won the final two rounds. I'm quite surprised that everyone on here thought it was such a robbery, but I just checked Sherdog and MMA Junkie and they seem to think Rua won as well. I'll watch it again but my initial reaction was a narrow Machida victory.
Machida's defense was pretty good in the first two rounds but I can't bring myself to award them to him on it alone. His only significant offense in round 1 came in the form of the initial volley of knees and a really beautiful head kick - and that was all spread out over the first two minutes.
