http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/1/13/2703103/ufc-142-jose-aldo-vs-chad-mendes-gsp Interesting although I really don't think so. The Faber fight as a whole was pretty entertaining as far as extremely one sided beat downs go. I fail to see how the Aldo-Hominick fight was boring, it was one of the best fights of that year :huh and you could say that the Florian fight was because Florian made it boring. I suspect this next fight might be boring seeing as Mendes will almost certainly have a very wrestling based strategy. I hope not though and am looking for Jose to get the KO in front of his hometown fans. What say you ESB?
I havn't watch the weight in but from what I remeber I think Aldo weight cut was more difficult in his last bout. Anybody know if it was the case for this fight ?
I didn't read the article....I try not to check out stupid thing like this ! Like any I-m-not-going-to-say-his-******ed-name interview !
It's going to be an issue for as long as he stays at 145. He had the drained look at the weigh ins with his face sunken in and his cheek bones sticking out. I heard an interview yesterday where Marcelo Garcia claimed that people he knows in Aldo's camp told him that Aldo weighed 175 at the beginning of the week. It's been widely reported that Aldo has cut from close to 170 since he started fighting in the UFC. IMO it's only a matter of time before he moves up to 155.
Im very objective and my answer is no, dont see it at all. On the same token, Aldo is nowhere as good or dominant as GSP.
If he can make a 25-30 lbs cut in a couple of days, I'd say that he knows how to cut weight just fine. The fact that it's getting harder and harder for him to keep his walk around and in shape weight down and perform at high level after he's made his cut means that he's fighting in the wrong weight class.
You're not meant to lose that much weight in the last week. Its meant to be a far more gradual process. He may be too big but I dunno - when you see him fight, do you think he comes across as a monster in terms of size? I don't.
Two completely contrasting styles Couldnt be further from the actual truth IMHO , its a non starter , Aldo a muay thai wrecking machine from one of the most recognised JJ schools in the world (and a black belt) , St Pierre a strategic wrestler with an excellent top game and very well rounded (was once an offensive striker) .
jose aldo has better striking than gsp jose aldo doesnt grease himself jose aldo doesnt pinch his nimples jose aldo wouldnt duck anyone (including my boy nick diaz) jose aldo has beaten more respected people in his weight division gsp is a ******.
I read it yesterday, but it's neither saying he's boring nor that he's stylistically similar to GSP, only that he's become more clinical in his approach rather than explosive. Which is a fair observation IMO, but may also be because the calibre of opponent he's now facing isn't Jonathan Brookins or Cub Swanson. He also looked poor off his back against Hominick, which was a supposedly brilliant aspect of his game. I still think he's ace, maybe he's just going through a patch of not finishing, as Anderson did against Maia and Leites (although he did finish in between above 185, and Aldo is most probably weight-drained) As for Aldo, I want him to move up to 155 after this, if Edgar beats Henderson (I don't think he will though) as I think two non-cutting guys will be at their optimum and it'll make for a great fight between two very quick, rounded and skilled operators. That may be a reason Aldo hasn't been as eager to let fly with his assault, fear of gassing, as he was ****ed after a round or so against Hominick.
