Decent card but not one the Japanese fans will give a damn about. The UFC is not catering towards the Japanes fans they are starting the show at 10am. Its a joke!! Not one of those Japanese fighters on the card is a star at this current time.

They will probably daw about 10,000 and get the success that the WWE gets in Japan which is nothing at all.

    This is a vanity show.

Nonesense. This is a nicely stacked card. What was the UFC supposed to do put Sakuraba in the main event? The majority of the fighters that individuals such as yourself would consider Japanese "stars" all fight in smaller orgs against lesser competition or in an endless series of freakshow fights. Arguably the best Japanese fighter is Aoki and when he tried to step up in competition in Strikeforce - he was crushed.

No this is a card headlined by an actual title fight between a true champion and a worthy contender. Very different from the majority of th freakshow fights that the Japanese fans have become accustomed to.

If this were a true Pride styled card it would be stacked with Oyama's, Shoji's, Giant Silva, Akibono and Bob Sapp. No - this is a mixed martial arts event featuring the best fighters of their respective divisions fighting to earn higher ranking in their division. It's something the Japanese fans are not accustomed to as they are usually served up gross mismatches and freakshows. This is mixed martial arts.

Well thats not enough in Japan. Japan is not like any other market and as I said it will do well to draw 10,000 but as for the UFC having a presence in Japan. Not a chance!!

    1. The Octagon is something the Japanese fans do not like.
    2. UFC is a foriegn promotion
    3. There are no Japanese stars (and even outside the UFC there are no real homegrown stars in Japan)

The fact Okami is regarded by the UFC as the #1 Japanese fighter yet is a nobody in Japan says it all.

The Card is similar to what a Bushido card used to be.

As I said before even when pro-wrestling was hot in Japan, Vince Mcmahon with all his money could not get the Japanese pro-wrestling fan to buy into his product. You have to go to Japan and at least meet them halfway.

Starting a show at 10am in the morning and producing a fight card which doesnt suit the Japanese market to me is nothing but a vanity show.

Seriously, outside of Melendez and maybe Thompson, the competition in Strikeforce was a huge step below the guys Aoki was fighting around 08-09.

Great to see one of my favourites, Joe Lauzon, on the card! Another couple of good victories and he'll be knocking on the door of a title shot! War Lauzon!

So what your saying is give them a main event of note and fill the undercard with mismatches , and throw in a few masks on people's faces and have them beaten up and the Japanese market will bite on it !!!

A Bushido card , dude are you shitting me !!! , this is modern MMA , this isnt the freak show sport it was once , if the UFC sell 10'000 seats , thats a good gate NO ??!!

Granted 10:00 a.m. is nothing short of scandalous , but thats really the only thing i can take from your post that stands up , there's every chance the UFC has a presence in Japan :deal

That's an odd thing to say. The guy Aoki fought was a step up - but the guys he did not fight are not a step up. OK. Gotcha. I've been following MMA since before there was a DREAM, ONE FC or PRide and events in Japan were called Vale Tudo Japan. If you fellas want to school me then lay down some knowledge.

Its not an odd thing to say, Gil and Aoki both fought Kawajiri, and Aoki was able to sub him faster that Gil was able to KO him.

Aoki has only appeared in NA twice, once against Gil and once against another guy he subbed in the first round, you may have watched all that MMA but you are basing everything you say selectively on one fight. Have you seen my list of the current and former champs Aoki has beat?
