Machida gets the winner of Jones/Sonnen. Which means barring a miracle we get Jones Machida II. Which i have no interest in. Henderson should have got his shot at Jones.
Agreed. Dana really ****ed up here. If he hadn't been such a mouthy dick about Jones turning the Sonnen fight down there wouldn't heave been such demand to see Sonnen get hopelessly outclassed by Jones and Hendo would be fighting JJ next. I have to say though, on the evidence of Hendo/machida, Hendo would get destroyed by Jones. Hendo looks like he can only win brawls at this stage of his career and Jones never lets his fight becomes brawls.
That would be the probable outcome. But Hendo has two magic ingredients. A granite chin, and the H Bomb, which could turn that fight on a dime. One thing could be guaranteed, it would be exciting fight. And far more fan friendly than watching Machida get humiliated again in another chess match.
But I think the Machida fight showed that Hendo cannot manufacture an opening to land the H bomb, he needs a wild exchange as his footwork is looking pretty pedestrian these days. Jones is so hard to hit and good at keeping his range I don't think it would be any closer than Jones Machida II but at least it would be fresh meat. Hendos good chin probably means a 5 round beating should the fight ever happen.
But that was primarily because of Machida's safety first style, the natural distance he employs because of his Karate background, and his southpaw stance as he circled away from Hendersons right hand. I don't doubt Henderson would have his work cut out as for all intents his always been a very simple fighter. Great Greco Roman base, and heavy hands. Thats pretty much it. Dans not likely to submit you and he's certainly not going to pull guard. But the recipe he has works and has elevated him to the HOF as a first ballot some day. But stylistically he represents a more interesting challenge than watching Jones Machida again.
Machida is getting broing imo. That Karate blitz style is good if he is going for the KO but Backpeddling and scoring the odd combo for a points win doesn't do a great deal for me tbh. And don't get me wrong, Hendo is probably the only half decent fight at LHW for JJ right now. Even coming off a loss and with his limitations it's the fight I want to see and you can never rule Hendo out. But Jones is every bit as hard to hit as Machida and at the moment is striking with more venom. Hendo is easy to hit and Jones is huge.
Iv never liked Machida. Not even from the early days when he fought BJ. I thought he was crap then and i still think the same now. I blame Rogan for all the smoke blown up his ass. He's just a boring fighter with a negative style who makes for boring fights. If you want to fight that way go and do it in Karate tournaments. Not in the f'in UFC.
When he first came in and was on a run of wins it was interesting as it was a very different style for people to solve. Even though I don't dig his style it was fun seeing how other fighters dealt with him. Now though he's fighting to not get KO'd and is boring as hell.
Reading some of these comments makes me feel like I'm back in 2007/2008. I haven't seen Machida get criticized for his fighting style like this in years. After he KO'd Evans (who was probably the most hated guy in the sport at the time) most people seemed to forget overnight that Machida's early UFC fights were so boring that Zuffa was actively looking for excuses to deny him a title fight in spite of his win streak. I honestly believe that if Tito had managed to finish that Hail Mary triangle choke, Zuffa would have seized the opportunity to cut him. Lyoto also seems to be really gunshy against powerful strikers in the wake of the Shogun fight. He fought the same way against Rampage. I thought that it was bizarre that most people seemed to blame the decision and the pace of the fight on Rampage when it was Machida who refused to engage until the end of the third round. I guess this fight woke people up like Guida's fight against Maynard woke people about how terrible Guida's fights are to watch when he's not getting his ass handed to him.
The Hendo and Rampage fights are the only ones I would consider boring. I find him to be one of the most interesting fighters to watch in the sport. Even in the Hendo fight, everything cool and effective that happened came from Machida. Just rewatch the Thiago Silva fight as a reminder of how brilliant he can be. Machida is still a more interesting challenge for Jones than Hendo, who only has a leg kick/overhand right combo to offer, which is very difficult to pull off against a cerebral fighter like Joner.
didnt watch this event because i simply dont want to ever see watch women beat each other up. its a circus freak show imo. Its a WWE trick for me this. im not for women in mma at all.
Are you kidding or did you just watch the main card? The entire event was kick ass. Never in MMA has a fight, the dangers and the finish been set up and paid off better than in this event. UFC 157 was a classic. **** the haters. All through the media buildup they talked about Rousey's armbars. What happened that never could have been planned were the near identical submission and near submissions by Faber and Carmouche. The crowd just saw Faber win a fight via standing rear mount/RNC and then Carmouche almost pulls off the same move in the main event. Ronda persevered and won with seconds left via her vaunted armbar. You couldn't write a movie ending better than that and if you did people would cry "bull****." Classic event. If you didn't enjoy it you just don't appreciate MMA.
by MMAjunkie.com Staff on Feb 27, 2013 at 2:15 pm ET This past weekend's UFC 157 event officially drew a 13,257 attendance figure and a $1,350,191 live gate. UFC 157 took place this past Saturday, Feb. 23, at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. The night's main card aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FX on Facebook. Inaugural women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey submitted Liz Carmouche in the night's main event. California State Athletic Commission officials on Wednesday released the official figures to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). The numbers mark a decrease in attendance from the 15,525 fans reported on fight night. The live gate estimate of $1.4 million was down only slightly from the initial estimate. Of the 13,257 attendees, 11,116 paid for tickets, and 2,141 received complimentary admission. That produces an average paid ticket price of $121.546 compared to a figure of $101.85 per ticket issued. UFC 157 marked the UFC's sixth trip to Anaheim. Only the promotion's home base of Las Vegas and Atlantic City, N.J., have hosted more shows in the United States. %^that could be a good fight Rhonda isn't used to fighting someone who can control her. Also I donot think that Rhonda is that flexible mentally. she goes for that arm bAR with a purpose you know what she is going to do. I would like for her to win doing somwething else.
