So me posting cold hard facts makes me wrong, ok then bud. I agree CW edged round 1 landing a few more strikes, Romero clearly won round 2 landing the harder, more consistent strikes. He also held a dominant position on the cage for an extended period and back cntl on the ground. The fightmetric numbers show this to be true as well as the eye test. Romero completely shut down CWs bread n butter, easily thwarting all of his td attempts throughout the fight. The problem with you labelling Romero as a drug cheat based on his physique alone is that he didn't just start looking or performing that way out of the blue. He's always been a heavily muscled explosive athlete and more importantly has been able to sustain his build in this post-USADA era where they are tested randomly out of comp, unlike many of the suspected and proven users like Belfort who suddenly shrunk considerably overnight after the drugs were taken from them (which was a horrible analogy btw).
You're not posting facts, but talking out of your ass. The fact you say Weidman wasn't able to take him down says it all. He was able to take Romero down, a couple of times actually. Just wasn't able to keep him there. You're skewing things to make it seem like Weidman was getting his ass handed to him even before that flying knee landed which couldn't be further from the truth. It was very clearly 1 rd and a piece and either mans fight going into the 3rd. Romero is a disgraceful drugged up cheat..... IDK why you're denying this when he failed a test not even a year ago just goes to show that you're a fanboy. Romeros athletic prime as a wrestler was in the late 90s/early 2000s. There's no way you can look and perform like that at nearly 40 and not be on the sauce. Use some common sense. It's not even speculation anyways. He already got ****ing popped. You're the kind of guy who vehemently denied Overeem was the roids a couple of years back. Use some common sense and quit being a fanboy.
So I forgot to mention CW's 1 td he held for less than 10 seconds, sorry. Other than that your not stating anything that I haven't already, yet you're saying I'm the one talking out of my ass..lol. And I'm not skewing anything, I stated a summary of what the fightmetric stats showed, you can go check them for yourself. Maybe your memory of the fight is what is skewed. Which was found to be a non steroid substance taken from a supplement: http://entimports.com/2016/02/no-steroids-yoel-romero-failed-diuretics-found-counter-supplementes Could he be juicing? Yeah possibly, but the argument you're presenting in the absence of any substantial evidence to prove it is a joke. And I've never tried to argue that Overeem (whom I've always called Overroid on these forums) was natural, another proven steroid user like Belfort who saw drastic changes to his physique post-USADA, again terrible analogy. You're normally a good poster but you're out to lunch here, brother.
There's a lot more to analyzing fights than looking at Fight Metric or punch stats. Not sure why you came out so anally pointing out that Romero landed slightly more strikes overall in the fight. Rd 1 was much more striking. In rd 2 Romero spent a good 2 minutes or so against the fence grinding Weidman down and obviously landed some strikes there too. And then there's the follow up shots after the flying knee which was obviously what gave him the landed strikes edge. Weidman won rd 1 by outstriking Romero - Romero won 2 on controlling Weidman against the cage.... That's the point I was trying to make before we got into this longwinded argument. Romero is not a good striker technically speaking. He loads up on single power strikes and is often very inactive for very long stretches before he explodes. Weidman may not be as 'explosive' but he's a far better striker overall technically speaking. Can't prove that he was on anything the other night. But it should be obvious to anyone with an ounce of common sense that Romero is not natural. If you want to delude yourself into thinking that guy isn't on anything that's your right. I won't and will point out what I think that he's very obviously a disgusting drug cheat any chance I get. As for the fight. Romero won - Weidman lost. That's all there is to it. I'll admit to being wrong on the drug test. Admittedly I didn't keep tabs on that situation. Still not 100% cut and dry though since Romero was suspended. Whatever though. Eventually that piece of **** will get popped without any doubt and no one will be surprised. http://www.fightmetric.com/event-details/4956f60b7fa57c1a On a side note these stats don't seem remotely accurate to me. It was a low output kind of fight but I'm positive that both guys landed more strikes than that.
Those were just the significant strikes, total was 16 to 27 in favor of Romero. Yeah sometimes fight stats don’t properly reflect what went on in a fight but I think this one did. I just felt that Romero’s strikes, esp his kicks to the body and to the lead leg were landed with more effectiveness and power. That’s just my opinion. CW's back and knee injuries have taken a lot out of him. He’s definitely not the same fighter who destroyed Silva 2x. That or he might be another of these guys who had to quickly get off gear post USADA. As for Romero's situation with USADA it isn’t iffy, he got 6 months basically for failing to fill out paperwork. Had he given notice of the supplements he was taking before the fight like he was supposed to he would’ve most likely just got off with a warning. To put the severity of his case into perspective, Jones just got a 1 yr suspension for taking boner pills, Machida just got 1.5 yrs. If you think he has to be juiced 100% because he’s relatively muscular, cut and can move around quickly at 39 then that’s up to you. Wlad is over 40 and still is ripped to shreds. Just because of how he was until fairly recently able to hold up at an older age will make me accuse him of taking steroids? No. Call it naive, but that’s just me. I’m more open to the idea that there are a certain amount of genetic freaks out there that can do things ordinary ppl can't. Romero and Wlad were selected from literally hundreds of thousands by their gov'ts to compete in sport. We’re talking about the elite of the elite genetics wise. I think that's more likely than Romero being the only one to somehow find a way to juice up with yr round out of comp testing.
