Gastelum and Weidman deserve their turn. Whittaker will be out for a while regardless.

Weidman... how can he deserve a shot? 3-fight losing streak before he beat Gastelum, and haven't fought in over a year. The UFC shouldn't give out free tickets to a title shot.

The commission stopped his weight cut, no?

More deserving than a guy who's 0-2 against the current champion and constantly misses weight. He's a top contender. That's not a free ticket.

Not sure who won, maybe a draw round wise, but Whittaker got his ass kicked.

Yea, it is a free ticket. One fight winning streak after getting knocked out three times in a row prior. That is a free ticket. Romero had 1 more hour to cut 0,2lb. The commission decided to pull him from cutting more weight, even though the doctor hadn't stopped the weight cut. Romero came in a month before the Rockhold fight, after Whittaker pulled with an injury.

I don't see a compelling reason to rate Weidman above Romero at the present, he was KO'd by him and Romero also recently KO'd another fighter who KO'd him (who currently is higher than Weidman in the rankings). Gastelum isn't anymore deserving for that matter. After losing to Weidman, Gastelum is coming off a win over a very ill prepared Bisping and a dodgy decision win over Jacare.

I'd like Weidman to fight Rockhold again for the next shot and Gastelum to rematch Jacare to settle that score.

Whittaker also looked like has a knee issue again, the way he kept flicking it inwards like he was unlocking it and looked like it has no stabilization a lot of the time...Get the thing surgically repaired instead of natural healing as it only seems to last 1 round.

Romero missed weight TWO fights in a row and is 0-2 against Whittaker. FACTS. He shouldn't be rewarded for his lack of discipline intentional or otherwise - It's unfair to competitors and hampers the integrity of the sport. Anyways the UFC/WME don't care much about rules or the integrity of the sport, which is why they had Cum Punk fighting on the opening of their PPV and will likely reward a scumbag cheater Roidmero with another shot despite coming up short yet again.

How can it be intentional to miss weight by 0,2lb. Don't fool yourself.

I haven't said that Romero deserves a shot, but if the competition is Weidman or Gastelum, Romero deffo is the more deserving.

I don't rate him over Romero, but he's a top contender and also hasn't faced Whittaker yet. Gastelum is probably a better choice though as he's on a 2 fight streak. Romero in theory as far as how he's performed recently is the best fight to make(even if under questionable circumstances) BUT the fact that he's missed weight in back to back fights, 0-2 Whittaker... It wouldn't be ridiculous to see a fresh face challenge for the belt.

Yeah the losses to the champ and the missed weights are strikes against Romero which would ordinarily rule him out of title contention if it weren't for the division currently being in a bit of a dormant state after Mousasi's defection to Bellator. Had Mousasi elected to stay it would've been an easy decision to give him the shot but at present you have a couple of fighters with tenuous claims for title challenges at best and an old dog who's a clear notch above them (but below the champ) who's capable of giving Whittaker an exciting, tough fight which i don't believe either Gastelum or Weidman are capable of doing.

I'm assuming he gave Romero rounds 3,4 and 5.

I think Romero incorrectly assumed he won round 4 with that knock down, and thought he was somehow preserving a victory by riding out the 5th. Huge mistake, as Romero appeared to take most of the 4th off and his only moment was hurting Whittaker with seconds to go. Romero should have let Whittaker up immediately after dropping him in the 5th, because Whittaker was seriously hurt at that point. 3

    I had it 10-9 Whittaker, 10-9 Whittaker, 10-9 Romero, 10-9 Whittaker and 10-8 Romero. 47-47

I can't really see any other score. There is no way Whittaker won the 3rd. There's no way Romero deserved the 4th. Romero not getting a 10-8 in the 5th is worse than giving Whittaker the 3rd, or Romero the 4th.
