Next up is the main event. Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Dustin Poirier. 5 round championship fight at the Lightweight limit (155 lbs). 2nd title defence for Nurmagomedov.
I did a double on Blaydes KO/Khabib Decision so financial that would be my favoured outcome but my heart wants Dustin to cause a massive upset.
That is true. I felt Barboza was the winner but a SD is not too far fetched. The cards were confusing. 1 judge gave Barboza all 3 rounds. The next judge gave Felder all 3 rounds. The last judge had it for Felder by 2 rounds to 1. Not a robbery by any means, just divided judging I guess.
Crowd are going crazy for Khabib as he makes his way to the ring. Certainly not a quiet crowd and it seems not too much different from a New York or Las Vegas crowd in terms of atmosphere.
Both are in the ring, not a single empty seat in the arena. It is packed to the rafters. Everyone is on their feet as Khabib's entrance music plays out.
Round 1: Poirier tries a calf kick, missed. 2 body shots from Poirier but both blocked. Nurmagomedov tries an entry for a take-down and switches to a single leg. Completes the take-down and takes Poirier's back, tries a neck crank twice. Both back up on the feet. Nurmagomedov has him down again. Poirier has his back trapped against the ring fence. Khabib lands a big elbow as the air horn goes off. Khabib.
Round 2: Poirier lands a big right hand and is chasing Khabib around the ring. He lands a few good punches and Khabib is hurt. Khabib takes him down again. Khabib putting his weight on Poirier, making him carry his weight. Khabib now has Poirier sitting against the ring fence and has his legs wrapped up, much like he did to McGregor. Poirier has a cut. Poirier back up as Khabib has him pinned against the fence. Khabib takes his back again. Again, Khabib takes his back, trips him and gets his 6th take-down. Knee from Khabib. Khabib 2-0
Poirier is relaxed and taking good advice in between the round 2 and 3. Replay shows Poirier's huge right hand that landed on Khabib and hurt him.
