Agree 100% Full credit to Usman who has a good chin as Colby seemed to be landing a few good shots for every 1 of Usmans. The overall strike counts and scorecards before the stoppage will be interesting as DC seemed to have Usmans nuts in his mouth throughout the fight, trying to say there was some doubts about who won the 1st 2 rounds which were clear Covington rounds
Yeah the win over Aldo was big and the ones over Porier and Holloway have aged well. Taking on Khabib after a two year layoff wasn't the shrewdest move on his part. No one goes unbeaten for that long in MMA and fighting at that level if they aren't a bit special and then when you factor in what a terrible style match up he was for him it really made an already difficult task that much more difficult.
Agreed. I wasn't scoring it and the rounds were close but Colby was at worst holding his own up until the finish and it would've been interesting to see how the judges had it.
Don't know how MMA is scored, if it's based off clean effective punching, I think Colby was clearly up 3-1. 2-2 at worst.
Like I said, I wasn't scoring it but it was at worst 2-2 for me. I think the judges had it 2-2, 3-1 to Usman, and 3-1 to Colby.
DC was off his head..The guy is usually brilliant and has his own breakdown show. Then says he has no idea who won between Alex and Max...i'n a massive Max fan and couldn't give him a round. DC is a good friend of Max's but to make a fool of yourself as a pro commentator not being able to see the fight, hand the keys in and go away
Card basically went as I expected with the exception of Holloway vs AV. That puts the brakes on the Holloway FW GOAT hype.
The way Colby went out was like a warrior though. The only thing he ****ed up was running out of the cage, he looked stupid doing that. Like he fought with a broken jaw and was up on most people's cards. Yeah, he got stopped, but he didn't tap out or ***** out or anything. Should have stayed. It was like he was scared of the reaction of the crowd.
Covington-Usman was an excellent fight. Both guys fought well. I thought the first 2 rds were very hard to score, basically even. Rd 3 was a clear Usman rd and rd 4 to Colby so very close going into the last rd. Usman had him badly hurt dropped multiple time at the end so even though the stoppage was imo a little early Usman was headed towards a 10-8 last rd and going by how the 3 judges had the fight scored he would have won anyway. I don't think Colby's stock drops too much and wouldn't mind seeing a rematch down the line. Volkanovski - Holloway was quite one side imo. Had Volk winning all the rds and was shocked when 2 of the judges had it 48-47, that was ridiculous imo. Moraes-Aldo I had 2-1 to Moraes. Rd 1 was clearly Moraes Rd2 was clearly Aldo so if came down to the last rd. Once AGAIN Aldo doesn't throw enough in rd 3 and imo Moraes wins the last rd by throwing and landing slightly more whilst Aldo was pressuring without much output. The commentary really annoyed me in this fight they would have you believe that Aldo was schooling/outclassing and clearly beating Moraes which was just nonsense. It was a close fight. Rogan talking nonsense is par for the course these days. In other fights I was very impressed with Petr Yan and Geoff Neal. Both are on good winning streaks and edging closer to title contention. Yan really should be next contender at 135 and Neal should maybe fight someone like Ponz next.
Hearing this morning some people trying to say Holloway got robbed and some of the scorecards on that Usman v Covington fight before the stoppage shows a lot of people have no idea how to score fights and also that there is a problem with the 10-9 scoring system, which just does not work for MMA .
Dana White loves looking after his former champs and his other favourite fighters,in his post fight scrum he mentioned possibly giving Aldo who's lost 2 fights in a row,the next title shot against Cejudo, because Cejudo has been desperately asking for the fight and Dana and Cejudo both believe it was clear win for Aldo over Moraes. Benavidez is the clear choice for the cringey Cejudo, who seems to want nothing to do with fighting Benavidez who was last guy to beat him
Only thing Hollaway was robbed of was his unbeatable hype at the weight. There was articles and interviews with Colby and his manager etc on his WWE like act. Before the Demian Maia fight UFC told his manager they were gonna cut him no matter the outcome because he had no style or character. That's when he went on to call the Brazilians filthy animals etc after he beat Maia and his gig started from there.
