UFC should have dealt with his years ago. The second you have an eye poke, immediate disqualification and a 50% fine on whatever your fight purse was. This is worse than a low blow.
Double and quite intentional double poke. I like Gane but why are they booing Aspinall? Should be a DQ And why is DC trying to push a narrative like Gane was putting on a clinic? Aspinall just had a bloody nose and if anyone won it was probably Aspinall or at worst it was very close and competitive
The recycling in the ufc is one of its main turn offs for me. I could be wrong but on the surface it just seems like its always the same guys fighting for the top 4 spots, including for the belt, in a few of these divisions.
Agreed. That they havent solved this by now, and are content to just keep letting big events get ruined and valuable fighters get hurt in such a manner, its embarrassing.
Man. The eye poke was horrendous, but I'm a little suspicious. The right eye, which is the one he was complaining about the most, was closed the whole time as he got poked. Could he have quit if fatigue was setting in?
No i don't think so. Fighting with an injured eye is asking to be knocked out brutally. I wouldn't fight in such circumstances. He is also potentially risking long term eye damage if he continues with an injured eye. Gane could have eye poked him again.
Alex Periera and Illia Touporia are carrying the UFC on its back. Dana has done nothing to help the sport for the last few years. He doesn't even seem into it. Perhaps its time to bring someone to help Dana.
The place I was watching the ufc had everyone saying Tom quit because Gane was putting on a clinic and wanted out. Multiple people saying this lol. Im glad to see everyone here beinf sensible about what happened. Its always crazy to me how the guy who gets fingers jammed in his eyes and cant see is not only just expected to continue fighting with one eye but actually gets more criticism for not continuing than the guy who stabbed his eyes gets for the foul. Stupid fans. That being said... i would never fault a fighter, especially an mma fighter where theres more dimensions in which to be exploited, for not continuing, but part of me wonders if Tom should have fought on. Im sure he couldnt see, but many fighters fight without vision in one of their eyes and go on to win... and I think the fight was very winnable for Tom even with one eye. He probably made the right choice though, and in an ideal world it would be understandable, but just sucks hes going to take a lot of heat for this and look like a quit job to morons. Also Dana probably bugged that he didnt keep fighting. Anyway, hopefully theres a rematch soon I guess.
