UFC 79: Machida VS Sokoudjou

Id like to see that but man this guy is elusive. I really cant see him losing

 

the thing about this fight is, this is the best fighter machida would have ever faced, soku has just ko'd little nog and arona, machidas biggest claim to fame is beating franklin and bj penn (who is at lightweight), i think machida is being given too much credit, ive seen him fight live and theres something about his style that seems to say he really doesnt like getting hit...dont get me wrong hes still an undefeated fighter and can possibly, and i stress that word possibly make a dent in the division, but i see him as a gatekeeper at best, the boxing equivelant to a journeyman fighter good for padding a record cause hes undefeated

 

Well noone likes getting hit if they can avoid it, surely?

Dunno, I like Soukodjou, but it;'s a really, really awkward first fight for him and I don't think he goes in as favourite.

They should have let him beat up McDonald or someone.

 

I was quite happy when I heard about this fight. Glad they signed Soko, the guy is a beast. I have felt that Machida is underrated for a while now. Tough one to make a pick on for me, so I'll hold off on the predictions for now, but as of now Im leaning towards Soko.

 

Rob McDonald? I dont think anyone wants to see Soko destroy a completely overmatched Rob Macdonald, I know I dont. Soko has wins over Arona and Lil Nog this year, meanwhile Macdonald hasnt even fought since Aug. of 06. Maybe you are thinking of another Macdonald. The only other one I can think of, is Jason MacDonald, but he is a Middleweight.

 

I just meant as someone he could get a spectacular KO on without too much trouble, rather than LYOTO which could mean he loses and looks bad in the process.

They have to build the guy up really, saying he beat Lil Nog and Arona, as impressive as that is, isn't going to mean anything in the eyes of the average UFC fan. "Here's Soukodjou, he beat two guys you've never heard of, but they're good, honest".

 

you're right no one likes to get hit, i geuss what i meant to say is he seems very unwilling to mix it up, like he wont RISK getting hit, which is also why a lot of his fights dont get shown...you have to dare to be great and he just doesnt seem to...idk just my opinion, esp. when ur a big wanderlei fan a style like machida can be super boring

 

I think fighters like Machida arent really boring.

He's like one of those fighters from the dawn of modern boxing, 1900s-1920s, (like Gene Tunney, George Carpentier, Pancho Villa etc) who used finesse, quickness and movement instead of toe to toe fighting and brute force like Dempsey.

Were now at the dawn of modern MMA and fighters like Lyoto are showing future fighters the blueprint on how to fight and win, finesse style.

 

Agreed, I think Machida's style is refreshing and very interesting. It's very outside of the box compared to what most MMA fighters have evolved into.
