That was the best show i have seen for a long time, very good fights with lots of excitmeny.

Sherk vs Penn will be great. It was pleasing to see Penn looking cut and not like a 10 year old boy.

I've never seen anybody stuff GSPs takedowns except Penn. In the first round of their fight when BJ was fresh, GSP was unsuccessful in getting him down. Penn was still strong enough to slip in the under hooks and keep it standing. That fight was a PRIME example of why conditioning is so important.

yeah, that fight was hella brutal. The cut on Stevenson's forehead made it very gruesome. The line from Bloodsport kept creeping into my head.

Man, I love that picture. If I could, I would make a giant poster of it and hang it in my living room. Think I'll ever get married if I do that?

I've just been watching BJ-GSP again and BJ does something different from what most fighters do on the bottom. Most fighters cross their ankles around another fighters back but BJ puts his feet on his opponents hips(I assume constantly pushing them away from him) basically controlling them to where he wants them to be positioned.

Open guard is having your feet open sticking up in the air, thats how I've seen most fighters do it, so stop being a smart arse.

I'd have to agree, its not that uncommon, just a type of open guard.

Why you talking like you know wtf you talking about? Again?

Open guard is not having your feet locked, therefore "open." What you do with your feet from there doesn't matter as long as your opponent in between your legs its still called "open guard". He does that because it suits his style and he has the flexibility to do that from tight positions.

actually its more of a spider guard, the reason he does it is cause it makes it easier to attack for submissions, down side is it makes your guard easier to pass, but when you got sick jiu jitsu and flexibility like bj, you dont really have to worry about that

and for the record, rubber guard spider guard, x guard(yes theres such a thing) etc., are all just new names for what about 10 years ago would technically be called an open guard...so anyone calling it an open guard is correct

Every BJJ 'guru' has to make up a new word that doesn't actually mean anything, hence you get all this crap.

Huh.........what I described BJ doing, I've never really seen another fighter do that before, if so, just fleetingly.
Since I've never really seen it utilized as much as he uses it I identified it as something 'new' and 'unique'.
