You are right about Franklin but at least he fought the **** out of Franklin and beat him down. A little clowning here and there isn't SO BAD as long as you are still fighting.
I think Cote won the first round. I was more impressed by the few ( it was a **** fight) leg kicks Cote was landing compared to the funky dancing Silva was doing and one single exchange during the entire round. Siva probably edged out the second from landing one good kick, and done nothing else.
Usually when he starts the fight he dances around the ring to figure out his opponants technique, movement ect and he done that for the first two minuets of the first round without throwing a punch, his attacks were sporadic at best, it was pretty much the same in the second round although i think he did go for it a bit more but on the whole it just looked like Silva wasn't really bothered, he did land some fantastic kicks and punches like he always does but he didn't seem to want to jump on Cote and take him out like he's done to his past opponants, although to be fair he might have done that in the 3rd round if Cote never injured his knee, i'm sure he would have stepped up the pressure and got the job done but because Silva is seen as the pound for pound best by many the public expect him to provide fireworks in every fight and that simply didn't happen tonight, i just think he wasn't motivated enough.
This was no bad day at the office. He literally ran around the octagon w/o attempting to do anything for the first 2 minutes of the fight - probably more. He was showboating out the ass shuffling his feet and wavin' his arms like a true certified jerk and never attempted to actually fight. For those of us - Rich Franklin, namely - who have seen Anderson take a fight seriously, we know when he's fighting and when he's being a jagoff. People paid for this ****. You don't go in there and act like an asshat. Not to mention there's money riding on his performance. Here's what Steve Cofield had to say . . . Between Anderson Silva acting the fool for much of the fight and a fluke leg injury to Patrick Cote, the UFC 90 main event was disaster. Silva won by 'TKO' when Cote could no longer continue with an injured right knee in the third round. But the story of the night was Silva turning off the crowd by clowning around for the first 10 minutes. Between dancing around the ring, twirling his hands, bowing disrespectfully towards Cote at the end of the first and at one point offering a hand to help Cote off the floor, Silva came off as a big jerk. He went from displaying a Muhammed Ali playful aura early in the fight to looking like he was sticking it to the UFC for matching him up against such a longshot. It was particularly embarrassing in the ring during the post-fight interviews with UFC color man Joe Rogan who said on three different occasions that it was, "a very entertaining fight." The booing fans weren't buying it. Did Silva put on a pleasing show for the fans with his slickness or did he resemble something closer to an NFL wide receiver? It's especially insulting to those who bought tickets in Chicago or shelled out bucks for the pay-per-view. The show hadn't exactly delivered a night of fireworks prior to the main event.
Rogan said over and over again that it was an entertaining fight- that is BS. I would argue that was barely a fight at all.
He did land some heavy knees to the body late in the second round which seemed to hurt Cote a little so i would argue that Silva was possibly starting to put the pressure on at that point, he never had a chance to prove it with Cote getting injured as soon as the third round started.
Oh, he had a chance. It was called the 1st and 2nd rounds. I wish I was in charge of that ****. I'd dock the sunuvabitch for that display . . . either that or give him a ****in' Soul Train Award.
He landed a flying knee and left hand too. Sillly perfomance by Anderson though. He should have gone in their to got the job done! Maybe he had money on Cote survivng the first two rounds though and a 3rd round knock out? :hey
Come on.. don't you think it's possible that he wasn't inspired tonight?, i mean when you think about what he'd done before tonight and all they have to offer him is Cote?, the man should be in there with Griffin or even Evens, Dana should be wetting Andersons taste buds right now with some exciting fights, he's made good fighters look bad let alone the likes of Cote so that's why i think he was coasting, but if Cote's knee had held out don't you think Anderson would have stepped up the pressure?, of course he would, he just happened to show off without knowing how long the fight would last, i'm sure he thought to himself "i've got three more rounds to put on a show" but that wasn't to be unfortunately, hey yall is it possible for a rematch to happen at UFC 91?.
****, the paycheck and the thousands and thousands of people that shelled out the money to watch him fight should be inspiration enough. From everything I've heard, Anderson is the one that doesn't want to be at 205, it isn't that the UFC doesn't want him there. Would he have stepped up the pressure? Maybe, hell, probably, but that is no excuse. It didn't take him over 13 minutes to start fighting any of his other opponents. RJJ was a clowner, and he landed punches. Silva against Franklin clowned a bit in their second fight, and he landed beautiful combinations. He is in there to earn a paycheck and to give me MY money's worth. The top 185lber in the world and top 3 p4p fighter in the world should be better than what we saw against Cote. Hopefully he can be a little more respectful to the fans, and his opponent, in his next fight.
Get the **** outta here with that bull****. You know what, man, when I go to work everyday I don't get the opportunity to be "uninspired." No matter how "uninspiring" I feel my day's task may be I still gotta do that **** and do it to the best of my ability. I don't get to act like an asshat cuz the bossman asked me to do something I feel I'm way too overqualified for. If he had a ****in' problem with the fight then don't take the ****in' money. It's that simple. Otherwise he's got however many thousand reasons not to be uninspired. He opted to take the money so he oughta have been plenty ****in' inspired! I have absolutely no reservations whatsoever stating that Anderson would have acted like an asshat for the entire duration of the bout had he had the opportunity.
Along with strategy, I think he knew Cote stood no chance, and was trying, but failing, to add a little extra to the fight, which otherwise would have been just a plain beating. He was trying to make it exciting, but failed.
You know what would have been plenty ****in' exciting? . . . a plain beating! It's never failed to excite before. Hell, I'll even go out on a limb here and say that's exactly what all the goddam fans in attendance paid their money in hopes of seeing. These excuses are sickening.
Hey, I agree, but in his mind he wanted to wait until Cote was no longer even remotely dangerous, and figured doing weird **** while doing so would make it exciting, it obviously was not. That said, he still landed quite a lot of brutal ****, and probably was a big factor in the knee blowing out. The takedown defense into takedown was nice.
Chill out son it's no big deal , look man i'm just trying to put a different view across, because we all know from his previous fights that he's usually all business but it's just possible that he wasn't in the mood tonight, **** happens man, to be honest i wasn't surprised with his first round performance, it was pretty much the same against Henderson but in the second round he went straight for Hendo like a bull but that just didn't happen tonight, but to be real is it fair to completely blame Anderson when he never had a chance to finish the fight?, yes he was clowing in the first two rounds but i'm positive he would have unleashed that artistic brutality sooner rather than later, and also the disgust on his face was evident after the fight, he's a vain man and a perfectionist and it looked like he just smudged a piece of his art tonight but i'm sure this won't be happening again, and god help his next opponant, i can just see the backlash now :rofl ,
