They kept saying that this UFC event had the biggest live gate in combat sports in London since 1995, well considering that the O2 Arena is the largest arena in London and it only opened about 2 months ago kind of gives a different perspective to what they were trying to say! Yes there has been one boxing match there since it opened, but it was only Matt Skelton versus Micheal Sprott for goodness sake and it was practically full for that anyway despite the fight being on live free to air national television ITV1 also!!!!!!!!!! The 1995 gate they are talking about was Bruno vs. Mccall at Wembley Stadium, well considering that Wembley stadium has been shut from 1999 until june this year while being rebuilt, well that kinda covers that part of the UFC argument also. In the meantime other stadiums were used elsewhere, hell im pretty sure the Tyson Saverese fight that ended up at Hampden stadium was about 40, 50 thousand and most likely would have been at Wembley had it been open! the Millenium stadium in Cardiff has also been used as a general replacement for Wembley by all sports.
