Well, ****, in that case I guess everybody on the Vikings would whup Lesnarar's homosexual ass. It's just they aren't into that gay ****, and decided to play football instead. Oh wait...Lesnar didn't make the team. Lesnar can beat guys like Couture who can't box, because he's at a stylistic disadvantage. But Lesnar is not a GREAT athlete, he's just a washout like all the other MMA "stars".
Plus the other reason teh Viks didn't keep him on the Developmental squad was the fact that is mostly used for young talent, and they said that at his age, they didn't want to use up the spot and have to wait for him to pan out.
Lesnar said he didnt want to join the NFL europe because he didnt want to be too away from his family.
So you still can't name 5 better athletes in mma can you? You talk with no logic. The Vikings were equal athletes but lacked the fighting skill, just as brock lacked football skill. In mma though, Brock has both; he has more raw atketic ability than any body in mma, since you disagree, name 5 better.
Yeah, GSP might be a better athlete, but I wouldn't say by far. GSP can do fancy breakdancing and flips and is super strong and quick, but Lesnar is RIDICULOUSLY strong and extremely fast for a HW. Sean Sherk is also a freak athlete, but I don't think he is necessarily MORE athletic than Lesnar... There certainly isn't a more athletic heavyweight.
Thats 1, and he may not be when you consider pound for pound. A 300lber is obviously going to be slower than a 190lber, but add in strength, explosiveness, and keep everything relative to size, and the result is not so favorable to GSP.
Lesnar is obviously a legitimate collegiate wrestler. We know that. Whats embarassing though is that he won a title in essentially 3 fights. And right now is arguably unbeatable in the UFC HW division. And he got there by being completely one-dimensional which MANY MMA fans say you CANNOT be if you want to succeed in MMA. This notion is simply inaccurate and there are plenty of successful MMA'ers who are one-dimensional.
MMA cant even gain mainstream acceptance. And its essentially a North American sport with little pockets of fans outside of it. Boxing is the far more popular sport internationally and this simply cannot be debated. When we hear about MMA, you always hear oh its popular in Brazil and japan. But really its waning in Japan that is why they needed a BOXER to fight on the same network prior to the Dream event. And Brazil, give me a break, they produce good talent but its not exactly an MMA hotbed in popularity. And what the hell is your obsession with your caveman examples? In case you missed it, its the 21st century. I've been an amatuer boxer for 3 years, took wrestling classes at an MMA gym and ive never, NEVER had to use any of these skills in the real world. Fighting is simply fun to train but its not exactly a requirement unless were living in the Ancient times. So keep your fantasies about MMA'ers ruling the world to yourself. And as much as you hate to admit, the way people fight in MMA is simply not the way you'd likely fight in a REAL FIGHT. And in a REAL FIGHT its completely unpredictable so saying an MMA fighter would kill a boxer ro the boxer would likely starve to death is another absurd comment. Frank Mir gets eaten alive by Super Middleweight boxers in sparring, you dont think those boxers could light up Mir in a REAL FIGHT? Fights always start standing.
He dropped god damn Frank Mir, Heath Herring and Randy Couture. He didnt KO Randy with a punch, he finished him with a thousand punches to the head. Brock does not have power and is a TERRIBLE striker. He looked completely uncomfortable on the feet against Mir and as much as you hate to admit it, Brock has NEVER fought a legitimate striker in MMA. Fedor would not be in any danger on the feet against Brock. Brock might not even be able to lay a finger on Fedor. Overeem, Kongo, Yvel would also give Brock a ton of problems on the feet. Brock would wipe through all of them in MMA, except for Fedor which would be difficult although I like Lesnar in that but on the feet, Lesnar gets humiliated. And again, we havent seen anything from Lesnar that indicates hes a "GOOD" striker. He along with many MMAers havent been taken into deep waters on the feet. We dont know how he reacts when someone is pressuring him, landing punches on him, how does he recover? The jury is still out on Lesnar being "good striker" but I certainly have evidence of him being a below average striker. And solid power certainly doesnt make you a good striker, you need more than that at least thats the case in boxing.
Lesnar is not one dimensional. He poses a big threat standing up because of his sheer size. Even if his standup is **** his punch still mess you up. Look at Herring, or Couture. There not any one dimensional fighters out there anymore. If you're a stand up fighter you will know how to stay on your feet. In a way its one dimension but in another its not. Name me a single ONE dimensional champion? HW is very iffy subject since if their one "dimension" is wrestling they still possess knockout power, all HW do. Cheik Kongo or Crocop for example arn't exactly hot right now. If by successful you beat one of the best in the division. Yea, you could say that its possible though again VERY dependant on the weight division. The lower it is the least successful you'll be by being one dimensional. Maybe all Lesnar proves is that 205-265 is little too much for MMA? Maybe it should be something like 205-245 and super heavy 245+? That way there won't be 300lbs of explosive muscle fighting you? See, you as a boxing fan see it from boxing perspective. In boxing there's no problem with "muscle" mass difference. Because big guys can't supply enough oxygen for big muscles in such an aerobic combat. So someone like Lesnar would never last past 4 rounds. He'll be successful in his first fights while they're 4 rounds. After that he'll be struggling keeping people inside 4 and finish them off early. So he would get to the top as easily but he'll still be a force. Make no mistake about it, watch some 30's rank fighters fight(especially HWs), their boxing is **** no better than waht you see in MMA. Do I hate the fact that Lesnar is a champ yea. But I can clearly argue why it is possible in this sport where it is still young and where its high possibility of an upset.
Like I said earlier, power doesnt make you a legit striker. If you're a good striker you can avoid that persons power by not GETTING HIT. Maia is a legit top 5 MW, hes as one-dimensional as they come. Shinya Aoki literally cant do anything other than fight off his back. But boy is he good at it. Than in the lighter weight classes you have a TON of wrestlers winning and rising through the ranks using simply wrestling. Clay Guida may never be a champion but hes a tough fight for virtually anybody aside from Penn and he is a wrestler and only a wrestler. And a boxer ranked outside the top 30 is still lightyears better than an MMA'er. Arlovski is a legitimate boxer in MMA with some very good skills and he looks like a rank amatuer in there going up against those dudes at wild card. The boxers like Tye Fields etc that look like crap would still light up an MMAer in boxing.
MMA will have a certain advantage. There's a difference. No one is saying that boxer would get murdered everytime. Certainly not, it takes at least a second to figure out that your talking **** to a boxer so if its a sucker punch than boxer takes it. Hell MMA guy might be just too confident even if he does see that the other guy might be a boxer. But MMA will have the advantage in a clinch which ends up happening a LOT when it's in bars or clubs believe me. Once clinch happens its very hard for boxer from there on out. So quit your bitching and acting like we ignorant MMA fans are baddies. We give boxing credit where it's due. MMA IS a superior way of fighting and you're being pure fan boy but you're slow to realize it. You already know it deep inside that MMA is better form of fighting you just too stubborn in old ways to realize it. You'll still fighting it for a year or two but you'll convert eventually. Especially while MMA skill of the top fighters keeps increasing and there are less and less no good fighters sitting at the top.
