Apparently many kick-boxers thought that Alex wouldn’t do well at first because his style was too boxing oriented

Brazil has had some good sucess in the amateurs scene recently.
Boxing is very popular in one State here (Bahia), basically all the recent fighters were from there (Freitas, Pereira, Robson Conceição, this new prospect gold medal Hebert too). And it is popular too in another northern state (Pará).
In the other places, especially the Southeast.. if you are talented for fighting, you go to MMA because the MMA scene is bigger and you simply have more opportunities to be active... and of course, BJJ is our bread and butter and more popular in the South-Southeast.
Not to mention that we are pretty good in Muay Thai, outside of Thailand of course, Brazil is only below France in Muay thai... (again, more in the South-Southeast)

there are people who believe Jake Paul can beat Perreira.

Seems like he gave that boxer a decent fight.

He’s not world champion level but above average at least a top 30 cruiser weight.

Probably the worst boxing I’ve seen form Poatan, his reflexes and overall skillset looked much sharper when he sparred McKean. Could Poatan potentially be past it?

I think round 4 from Saturday answered my question more than anything lol, those quick straights Khalil threw were troubling him early on though.

Jup, which makes me wonder what Pereira’s old rival, former GLORY Kickboxing Light-Heavyweight champion Artem Vakhitov, could do to Poatan in a potential trilogy fight (but this time in MMA) !
The Russian Kickboxer has transitioned to MMA and is fighting for a UFC-contract tomorrow in the main event of Dana White’s Contender Series, so now is the perfect time to revisit Vakhitov’s rivalry with Alex Pereira.

Artem Vakhitov has brilliant Boxing, and during their fights, he was landing clean 1-2s down the middle on Pereira. Watching him find his rhythm is like poetry in motion.

For those unfamiliar with GLORY or Kickboxing:
Artem Vakhitov and Alex Pereira are 1-1 in GLORY, having exchanged the LHW belt in two razor-close, high-level fights. Vakhitov was the long-reigning champion until Pereira claimed the title by split decision in January 2021, becoming the first and only fighter to hold GLORY titles in two weight classes simultaneously. Later that year, Vakhitov won the title back by majority decision.

They’re tied 1-1 in super-close championship bouts, with Alex edging the first and Artem the second.
Interestingly, many felt Vakhitov deserved the first fight and Pereira the second, so they would still be 1-1 in the end.

In my opinion, both fights could have gone either way.

I’m curious how you would score their epic GLORY championship fights?

I’m really looking forward to Vakhitov’s fight on DWCS tomorrow !

He has all the strength and power to be a good boxer offensively but his lack of traditional defense would not allow him to get far.
