It's great that Affliction are providing some competition for the UFC. They already have a good roster, and with the recent collapse of Pro Elite they could definately grab some of the free agents for their lower weight classes and fill out their roster further. Plus they will attract fighters flies to **** if they continue paying the purses that they currently do.
Its not as simple as that, bottom line is they need to make money. And relying on one fighter shows how difficult its going to be for them. As Ajax pointed out, we don't even know when there next event is or how many events they have planned for the year. Its all good saying Trump and GBP are 'partners' with Affliction but in what capacity? It might sound like I'm hating but I'm just being a realist. I really hope Affliction do well. It would be great not only for the fighters but also the fans if the UFC had a serious rival.
I know you're not hating. But this is really that simple, this is entertainment and last night, Affliction really delivered. As a fan, I cannot see Affliction folding after last night, they created a buzz. I want more. Now if the feeling you got after last night was "hhmmm, its ok, dont care for it much", then theres a problem There is no doubt about it, they gained new fans last night. This is the fight game, they saw Fedor, the greatest fighter maybe ever and now they want to see more. Against Sylvia it was a mere introduction, this time its the unveiling. Oscar was there missing the Mosley/Margo fight! Why? its instinctive, he knew this might be something big. As for Trump, he probably just dont like the Fertitas. I agree there is still a hurdle, what was the PPV sales? did it break even? If the numbers are decent, theres a few more coming. And this is really the only thing they need..to keep going. The UFC is totally watered down with their shows and people who are getting bamboozled getting tired of it. Meanwhile I want to see more Fedor.
lol yeah right, let them do it, itll give Dana a heart attack. If Silva leaves which he stated he will and BJ wont take it from Dana anymore. Goodbye UFC. They can do a show once a year. GSP and the rest of the UFC. Dana better be concerned bashing his guy BJ. GSP is the only one I can see whos totally inlove with him. Lesnar wont take his **** either
Yeah it will be intresting to see how many buys they get. Hopefully, at the very least it will be an improvement over the 1st event. :yep
They better catch "steam" before it's too late with the high salaries they are paying their fighters turning a profit is that much tougher. There is 5 or 6 bars that carry every UFC event in my city I called all of them to see where I could watch the card and none of them had it and only 1 guy even knew what I was talking about. Paying Matt Lindlund over 200,000 is risky at best.
First of all, it can be argued (I certainly think, at least) that Franklin and Hendo are the #2 and #3 MWs in the world. The fight wasn't stellar, but #2 and #3 is about as good as you can get for a non-title headliner. Rua (Formally considered by some to be the #1 LHW in the world) fought his comeback fight on that card as well. Also, matching up Davis versus Lytle is a sure way to have an exciting fight. Also, the event was SUPPOSED to be free on Spike, but Spike didn't want to commit so much money to it so early in the year (You ever notice there are more Spike events at the END of the year? It's because they have a better idea of their yearly budget at that point.) All in all, not every card can be a championship card. UFC 93 wasn't the best, but Affliction has put on TWO SHOWS and UFC has put on 93 + fight nights. I hope Affliction stays around, and stays competitive with the UFC, but two shows doesn't prove financial longevity.
From a show vs show standpoint, sure, but Affliction puts on 1 show every half a year or so, the UFC does about 2 a month so the talent is spread thinner. Not from a business standpoint though; Affliction is losing money every time they put on a show, and their t shirts aren't nearly as popular anymore. Yes they have wealthy partners, but those partners are not charities, they won't take a loss indefinitely. They are a t-shirt company putting on an MMA show for fun, thats fine until people stop wanting skulls and flaming devils and **** on a $50 t-shirt.
I think they will start turning a profit soon enough, fighters talk to each other and the purses alone will be enough for most fighters to bail out on the UFC. Once a few guys jump **** Dana will start really being a dickhead to the remainder of his roster and **** talk the jumpers pissing fighters off all over the place and eventually the UFC will be the farm team for Affliction. Atleast thats what I hope hahahahaha, man I hate Dana.
This is real world talk.:good This is going on as we speak. Silva is retiring, after Dana tried to embarrass him after his Cote fight. Silva has an interview on YT Brazilian TV, he aint kiddin
I doubt he will retire if Affliction throw a million or so bucks at him..Which is very likely to happen once his UFC contract expires.
Thats the deal. Truthfully, the UFC MW division is not that strong. I want to see Silva vs Belfort or Le or Lawler
