I agree. MMA coverage = WWE style cheerleading for the UFC, and this even takes place with many of the knowledgeable message board fans who should act better. When I see the Strikeforce hate (or the previous dismissal of Pride) I feel like im in the Twiligh Zone. Boxing fans would be screaming bloody murder over some of the past UFC cards (Couture vs Coleman & Toney, Cro Cop vs Mir).

Boxing fans are the polar opposite, they are always negative and always look to crap on the sport and discredit fighters. Some of the blind ignorant love of MMA fans would do us some good.

I guess K-1 always worked because that sport is even more niche and up until a few years ago K-1 was the only promotion to offer good money. With the fall of FEG and the rise of Dutch promotions things might change.

Except the fact that nobody drew more on PPV than Brock Lesnar in 2010.

I'd say boxing is suffering alot from the fallout of hype that went down in the 90's and early 00's, lots of guys were built up while being protected and fell hard. Its not impossible the same could happen in MMA if hype jobs keep on getting exposed like Lesnar and poor events carry on.

As you say what it has in its favour right now is a fanabse and a media thats almost totally uncritical. The fans are often highly protective of the UFC brand and the media is either too ignorant of a new sport or in the UFC's pocket.

K1 was massive in Japan back in the day and even in its decliend state is still pretty big. The difference is I'd say more about the way the sport is promoted, its far more honiest than boxing or MMA in the US, fighters are hyped on their actual achievements rather than as unbeatable monsters. Loses are excepted as part of the sport and provided you'll also picking up wins and giving good performances don't have that much of an impact on fighters careers.

    UFC fanboy exhibit A.

Yeah as far as achievements go, they did a hype job on Sapp and suffered for it long term but by en large the guys that have gotten hype down the years have backed it up with consistant achievement.

Leben is a decent fighter but nothing special. Bisping is pretty good but he just ain't championship material at least not in the ufc middleweight or light heavyweight division.

yea hamill should have won that fight. Bisping has a pretty good stand up and decent ground game. He's got the talent but not talented enough to beat silva.

koscheck was one dimensional when they fought the first time. Now koscheck has improved his striking a lot. I would love to see them fight again if leben can make 170 or koscheck decides to moved up.

his kicks are decent but his telegraphed jab right hand combos was the reason alves timed him and hurt him so easily. his boxing is garbage, his kicking is decent, his grappling is world class.

He's gotten better compare to when he first started in the ufc. I remember him in that ultimate fighter show and he had no stand up game. He improved a lot since but as long as GSP is fighting at 170, koscheck won't be able to win the title.

I know but he still has terrible hands. And like you say, GSP can outwrestle him, and wrestling is the one thing Koscheck is elite at.
