The thing I don't get is, it was obvious very quickly the double leg and single leg wouldn't work. Why didn't he go for a clinch and trip more often, I mean he might sacrifice position on the mat but he's atleast in the area he wants to be competing.
i dont give masvidal much of a Chance. while i like gamebred alot, i just cant see him being physically competative with woodley. remember maia outwrestled him........and woodley is much stronger then maia. i see woodley taking him down at will and win a rather boring noncompetative descision.
After Lawler Jorge is the next logical choice for Woodley. Either of the Diaz brothers bring a payday and so those fights could realistically happen. Just need them to stay off the Mary Jane long enough.
For me Woodley is a top notch fighter. He wasnt exciting in his last fight but recently he seems to pull off his game plans quite well. Maia didnt have the right game plan against him. He kept trying to single leg against the cage - Woodleys really good against single legs in general. But Woodleys had trouble in the past with clinches against the cage, which Maia never tried. I was quite disappointed with Maia. The fight was boring but judging by the fight, Woodleys gameplan was a champions gameplan. Hes a brilliant fighter and seems to have a lot of composure. I wanna see Masvidal go against him. He lost a close split decision to Maia. The middleweight division has a huge number of good fighters. The GSP fight however is a money fight. How can a guy who was once welterweight come back years later (without having a comeback fight) and fight for a title in a division hes never been in. Bisping needs to fight a top contender. I dont want to see the Weidman fight. I want to see the Whitaker Bisping fight.
If Maia got Woodley down he would have 100% outwrestled him. The problem was the amazing takedown defense from Woodley. Masvidal v Woodley would be a good fight
