Personally, the two bouts that most interest me are Jones-Matyushenko (I desperately want Jones to get KTFO or humiliatingly subbed just due to all the hype around him...nothing personal :yep) and Doomsday Howard vs. Jake Ellenberger (Josh is a local boy and his style is AWESOME although still a bit raw and unrefined). I'd been wanting to see Gomi against Joe Daddy for a while even though he's arguably shot...for some reason him fighting Griffin just doesn't really interest me as much. :conf I don't know Griffin as well. Munoz and Okami are two more of whom my knowledge is fairly thin, but the buzz seems to indicate that it will be a good one. There could also always be a prelim sleeper.
Griffin is always in FOTY of the night caliber fights so I expect the Gomi fight to be exicting especially since style wise this is a better fight for Gomi because Tyson doesnt normally look to grapple. Ellenberger vs Howard is going to be sick and someone is getting KTFO the other 2 fights I have mild interest in.
I like Ellenberger the few fights i have seen have been worth a watch. Doomsday has some heavy hands though should be a good one i'll go with that.
It seems there are no eleventh hour pull-outs...which means we have a great night of action a mere 16 hours away. :happy
I think Okami might surprise again, he knows he's not known as an exiting fighter but his last fight he showed some good standup improvement. Maybe the trend will continue.
The poll closed before I could vote. I think all 3 fights leading up to the main event have chance of being highly competitive. I would have voted for Ellenberger vs Howard. Ellenberger keeps his chin tucked, appears to be resilient, and looks to land the cross. Howard comes in with guns blazing, chin held out to dry, but with a clear edge in handspeed.
Gomi set a good tone for the evening with that beauty of a right hook. Griffin is a ****** for the way he acted, and has earned himself a permanent hater. There was a bit too much of the standing clinch and uneventful moments on the ground in the Howard-Ellenberger fight for my tastes. Doomsday probably wins a rematch, and realistically proved himself the better fighter in the loss. Charles Oliveira certainly deserves submission of the night honors in his televised preliminary/swing bout against Darren Elkins. Bruce Buffer is a complete ****ing dweeb with his little dramatic hyper-turn thing that he does during introductions...he does realize that, right? Since when is Big John McCarthy back in the UFC??????? :shock: Why did those idiots ever let him go in the first place? The middleweight bout was interesting, with Okami clearly winning the 1st round very technically and Munoz stealing the second with some good punches. The last five minutes were very exciting and fought at an impressive pace by both. I scored it a very clear 29-28 Okami - along with two of the judges, thankfully. Jones is quite an athlete. Matyushenko is still a badass, though - especially for coming out to Motorhead. :yep Overall, in terms of sustained and competitive action, FOTN goes to Okami-Munoz, IMO.
I think Okami vs Munoz looked like ****. No skill, so repetitive, so plain. I liked the finale. Jon Jones very versatile.
