One of the intriguing stories leading up to and through the release of UFC 2009 Undisputed was how the fighters were being forced into lifetime contracts. Now comes news that the UFC may be taking things even further by intimidating fighters who are not currently signed by them by making it known that they will never be accepted into the UFC should they sign on for EA Sports’ MMA. BloodyElbow has the info as pulled from forum sources.

When it comes down to it if a fighter has the potential to make the UFC money they’d surely take them on regardless. Who this really will affect are those guys who are on the brink or would be competing for a spot. If they feel it would hurt their chances than it very possibly could sway them from deciding to go over with EA. This does add to the struggle that EA is facing with their MMA title which will not be able to put together a roster nearly as enticing as what UFC will have every year.

UFC have also (allegedly) started to charge companies that sponsor fighters $100,000 per fighter wearing their sponsor on their clothing.

Its not as if the fighters get THAT much money when compared to other sports as well (and other MMA organisations), considering the risks they have to take, so UFC are just cutting into their earning potential by making sponsors go down other avenues because they are charging them.

Keep it up and I personally wouldn't be surprised to see a rival league where most of the current fighters will graviate towards. You can only surpress someone's true market value for so long. The star of the UFC isn't Dana White, it's the GSP's and the Silva's. I think the UFC's had past problems with Tito and Randy Couture over their contracts and it sounds like things are just going to get worse. A very short sighted policy in my opinion.

The fighters that are approached by EA have to tell the UFC to go **** themselves. If this is true it really is unbelievable. I mean I know the UFC is the biggest show in town but to give fighters that aint even signed to them such a hard deal is a joke.

When EA announced they were making an MMA game I knew having no UFC brand wouldnt matter. EA are a powerhouse and dont need the UFC brand to be a success. UFC know that EA is a real threat to there game.

and people wonder why we ***** and complain about the UFC? In a week or two nobody will care or even talk about it anymore anyway and Dana knows this. The UFC will get away with it and the fighters will be ****ed because nobody has the backbone to stand up and tell the UFC to **** off. The fighters need a union, until that happens the UFC will owns its slaves and nobody will care.
